Turning 18 means that you are finally an adult. You can legally drive, travel and rent hotel rooms, and you can get tattoos without the need of parents permission! 18 means freedom. Even though you are still probably living under your parent's roof, even they understand that you are an adult and have hopefully loosened the reigns.
Since I was 15, I have always wanted a tattoo. I had the design ready in my mind and all I needed to do was wait until I was old enough to get it. Three years is not that long of a time, but it is when you are looking forward to something. I turned 18 at the beginning of my senior year in high school and decided to wait until the summer to get it. I did not want to play on my sports teams with a tattoo and walk around the halls with one, for no reason in particular, other than the fact that I thought it would just be better to wait until the summer.
I had no idea what tattoo parlor I should go to, I just had an image in my mind. Luckily for me, one of my friends happened to mention that she wanted a tattoo also. So long story short we promised to get our first ones together in July, shortly after school let out. That leads us to this:
If you read one of the previous articles that I wrote with my sisters, than this should look familiar. It's a double infinity; meaning forever times forever, and the four dots surrounding it are for me and my sisters.
What most people want to know about getting a tat and what their first question after "What does it mean?" is usually, "How much did it hurt?" Well it is hard to say because it depends on the spot where you get it. As some sports hurt worse than others. On the wrist it actually did not hurt that bad! The way that I describe it is that it feels like a very hot pressure. If you have ever accidentally been poked by a lead pencil, it basically feels like that over and over again. Which sounds painful but is not that bad.
My friend got this one close to her ribs, and let me tell you... She was in pain. That is why it is kind of nice for me that she went first because I was expecting to go through the same pain as she did, but I was pleasantly surprised when my pain wasn't as bad.
Thanks for being the guinea pig Lex!
They say that once you get one, you'll be back for more. Because it is an adrenaline rush, a feeling like no other. I thought that was insane and that I only would need one, I only WANT one. But I was poorly mistaken and so was Lex.
We went back during December break, to the same place and asked for the same guy because he did such a nice job on ours the first time. Inspiration strikes you in many different places at all times, and anything that I permanently put on my body has a meaning that is near and dear to me.
In April I lost my grandfather, his side of the family was Greek. So in order to always have him and my Grandmother with me as she passed away when I was five I got "The past is just a story" written on my arm in Greek. No I did not use google translate. Luckily I had a Greek friend that I met at school who was able to translate it for me.
The inner bicep hurts so much worse than the wrist. I asked if the artist was done within the first five minutes because it felt like an eternity and he said "I haven't even finished the first word." Luckily my friend was there with me and made fun of me which made me feel better. I think...
My friend Lex got one on these on the side of her wrist and the other one on the inner arm right below the elbow. That one took awhile.
As for getting more, the only other one that I can think getting is one that me and all my sisters want, together.
So, if you are thinking about getting one, remember that it is going to be on your body forever. Think about what you want before you get it and there is no way you can regret it. Make sure that you go to a clean place even if it does cost more, the cleanliness is worth it. And lastly, make sure that you take care of it after you get it. That includes Neosporin, and moisturizer. Your body is your canvas if you want it to be. No one can tell you otherwise!
