Tape Face, My Favorite To Win America's Got Talent

Smart, funny, and silent.

Tape Face, My Favorite To Win America's Got Talent
The Fix

This is the first year that I have actually watched America’s Got Talent, and I have loved nearly every second of it. My favorite act is a mime with the stage name “Tape Face”. Tape Face or “The Boy With Tape On His Face” has become a true star on this seasons America’s Got Talent (AGT). I don’t know much about this act. Honestly, all knew before a little Googling was that he is from New Zealand, he is super creative, and his entire act is completely silent.

What is not to love? For one, I have never seen anything like it. The closest kind of act I can think of comparable to Tape Face would be comedy magician. What is a comedy magician? A comedy magician is a cross between a magician and an actual comedian. A comedy magician might do a magic trick and then perhaps tell a joke or make the trick seem flawed to trick the audience. Comedy magicians during the 1980s and 1990s were usually the main act on stage at a bar or club. They were usually paid more handsomely than the other acts during the night. Comedian Patton Oswalt compares pissing off a comedy magician to pissing off a warlock, not something you want to do.

Another aspect I like about Tape Face is the mystery to the entire act. When Tape Face walks out on the AGT stage all bets are off. Tape Face has emulated a airplane flight to his death and also a very comedic silent dance with popular music, alone. Most of his acts require a member of the audience or a judge. So far in the current season of AGT, Tape Face has invited Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and AGT Host Nick Cannon on stage to help with his acts. I personally hope that during the semi-finals Tape Face asks Simon Cowell to come on stage, hilarity will sure ensue.

Tape Face is my overall favorite act this season and I hope he can move on… Oh, you want to know about this personal life and his true identity? Well, if you want to find out that kind of stuff and ruin the act for yourself, go ahead. Just don’t tell me, I just wish to enjoy the show.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
