Last Tuesday, Microsoft held a press conference to show off all the new tech it's working on for the coming year. Among the impressive new gadgets was the HoloLens. Though the Microsoft HoloLens was revealed and blew minds earlier this year at E3, the latest demo revealed even more about the tech, proving an amazing potential for augmented reality gaming.
From E3, we learned that the HoloLens will be able to create a massive projection directly on a wall, allowing gamers to play without a television. Even cooler was the unique, "Minecraft" themed border around the projection, giving the experience a stylish, customized feel. Every game could feel more intimate with an exclusive border from the developers.
Notice how his hand is glowing? This is achieved through the introduction of a new peripheral. Now a controller can track players' arm movements, allowing them to "wear" holograms. The potential to Turn players into a likeness of Samus or Mega Man is exciting.
However, I would have liked to see a game that turned the controller into a sword. There was an instance of the HoloLens forming a shield that the player could move and hide behind. I would have liked to see a second controller brought in to demonstrate a dual wield function of sword and shield or simultaneous arm cannons.
