Lets Talk About Opinions

I really do not care what anyone else thinks.

Bare with me. I know that sounds harsh, but let me explain. At the end of the day, my opinion is still my opinion. I cannot say that it always works, but I try to remember that everyone is entitled to have their opinion. So that being said, let's talk about opinions.

Personally, I like to be right all the time. I mean, who truly wants to be wrong? The thing is, just because someone sees something differently from you, does that truly mean that either one of you are wrong? Or does it simply just mean you see something differently? We use others' perceptions of ideas/events and so forth to determine so much about them.

More recently than not, I have begun to notice that the desire to be right all the time has come in the way of seeing the importance in the variety of opinions that surround us. Like I said, I find myself guilty of getting so caught up in the idea of always being right, that I don’t see the importance to understanding someone else’s opinion and where they are coming from, but I truly think that it is something I (at least) need to work on.

The thing about opinions, is that they always are going to differ. Although people may have similar ideas, and may favor the same idea the reason to why is most likely going to be different. Our opinions are made up of everything that makes us up as an individual; the places we’ve been, the things we’ve seen, the things we’ve been through and so much more. That is the true beauty of opinions, the fact that they are all different.

With varying opinion, we are able to grow and evolve so much more, than we would be able to if we all had the very same opinion. Opinions do not have to be do or die, and I do not know when or why it became that way. So what if you don’t agree with what another person said? Honestly, just because someone has something different to say, here them out! Maybe they will prove your point, maybe they’ll say something that will make you think, and maybe you might even find some sort of common ground. Use others opinions to to help you out, listen and allow it to help you grow and learn.

There is no need to switch around your opinion, because someone else thinks a different way. On the other hand, there is no need to not let another person get their opinion out. We all have the right to feel, say and do almost anything we want, but we also have the ability to learn from the things others feel, say and do as well. Now, like I said I do not really care what anyone else thinks, because at the end of the day my opinion is still my opinion.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
