Life can be extremely difficult. Things happen, we get undeniably busy, we miss out on a million different experiences, and we just lose track of everything. Time makes fools of us all. We tend to get so caught up in our routines, that we tend to feel run down, lost, and just plain drained. That is why there is vitaly important to maintain a cultivation of ‘self,’ in order to live the way you want to.
Life is a learning and growing experience. No matter what, through life, you have you, and that’s it. Of course, there are many people that you love: friends, family, a significant other; but, nobody will ever spend more time with you than yourself. It is important to understand that in order to take the necessary steps to grow.
Since life is a growing experience, you can begin to feel lost if you do not pay attention to yourself. You may get caught up in work or school, or you may become entirely devoted to making another person happy, but at the end of the day, you will know that something is missing within your soul. That is why it is so necessary to take time to yourself. Your soul inherently has needs that must be fulfilled and when you devote all of your energy into something else, it can grow tired and hungry. In order to feel relieved, you must listen to your heart and do things you want to do sometimes, without the worry of any repercussions.
I promise it’s okay to take some time to yourself. It isn’t selfish to go do what you love. By doing what you love, you will feel at peace, stress free, and truly fulfilled. If you’re an artist, but haven’t painted in a while because you “can’t,” stop believing that and make time for it. If camping brings you joy, take some time to do that. It’s hard knowing what you’d rather be doing, isn’t necessarily the thing have to be doing. When we are prevented from doing the things we love or enjoy, we quickly become empty or distressed.
These moments that we take to ourselves by enjoying our hobbies or joys, allows us to take a breath of fresh air and gain some perspective about what really matters to us. When you’re doing the daily grind, that’s all it becomes. You do not have time to think or contemplate, in order to become mindful of yourself or your surroundings. It is only when we take this time to gain clarity, that we can fully begin to feel full again.
By feeling full, we can continue to do the daily grind from a much better perspective. We need to constantly be learning about ourselves. What we enjoy, what we hate, what makes us live, and what makes us sad, are all important things to know about oneself. Without this knowledge, it is easy to feel distanced from the life you’re living. In order to live a full and happy life to its greatest potential, you have to look out for yourself sometimes. You have to throw yourself into the things you love, and not let anything hold you back.
