I'm not just talking about the typical boyfriend–girlfriend relationship everyone immediately thinks of when they hear this word. I'm talking about all of our relationships: the ones with our friends, family, ourselves … the list goes on.
Relationships are hard work and, really, the success of all relationships comes down to one concept: it takes two.
You can't have a successful relationship with one person; no matter how hard that person tries to make it a success, it's impossible. It won't happen. Two people have to be fully committed to the relationship and to wanting to make it work. Both people have to make an effort to communicate, reach out and spend time.
A one-sided relationship can be one of the most disappointing things to face, but it is better to face it and choose to spend your time with those who want to spend time with you as well.
A two-sided relationship can be so rewarding and full of love and mutual gain. So bottom line: cherish the two-sided relationships in your life because those are the ones that will lead to happiness and growth.
