If You Have An Hour To Talk To 16-Year-Old You, What Do You Say?

If You Have An Hour To Talk To 16-Year-Old You, What Do You Say?
Ashley Denton

Imagine sitting down face to face with your younger self… You actually get a chance to have a conversation with yourself when you were 16, you have one hour with them. What do you say? Where would you start? The possibilities are endless…. Me? Honestly, I don't know where I would start but I can imagine it would go a little like this…

ALWAYS REMEMBER EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON…. You won't know why it happens, you may never know but know and trust that everything happens for a reason, its all part of gods plan… We may end up upset, mad, broken down if something doesn't go the way we have hoped, trust me kid the point is going to come where you think life is over that there is no point in going on but trust me its worth it, you will have doors open for you in the places you never would have expected.

DON'T TAKE WORK SO SERIOUS, Girl You are SOOOO young and you have your whole life ahead of you, don't work yourself so hard for a job that can replace you in a day, it's not worth it. You are only young once and you will never get these days back, yes being a hard worker and having a good work ethic are amazing qualities to have but don't let that over-take your young life. Go to that party, take the day to go shopping with your friends and call in sick if you don't feel good and just watch movies with your besties all day, trust me its ok and you will thank yourself later…

DON'T BE AFRAID TO GO OUT AND PARTY!! Life is so short, go out and make memories with you're girls and don't be afraid to let your hair down and go have fun! Get dressed up with your friends have a little bit to drink and dance like no one is watching, its ok. I promise. With this being said make sure to know your limit and try not to go overboard, because I can promise you, you will high key regret it in the morning.

STAY AWAY FROM THE "BAD BOYS"!!!! Girl! If you can remember one thing from our chat its this, the cute and mysterious "bad boy" you are talking to and crushing on… honey, he is up to no good. He wants one thing, and one thing only. Trust me… You're going to come across a few of them and they are going to teach you the same lesson, we've gone through this about three times so far and I think we have finally learned our lesson. Don't worry though soon you'll be able to spot a f***boy from a mile away…That ability will honestly be a superpower, use it to your advantage!

Now just because you have had your heart broken a few times by a few boys who didn't deserve it DOSEN'T GIVE YOU AN EXCUSE TO PLAY A GUY… Two wrongs don't make a right. You're going to play a good guy, and girly trust me that will hurt him, and it will hurt him bad… sure in the moment it is going to feel good, that this is the right thing to do. You will think to yourself "well if these guys can play with my heart and with my head then why can't I play with there's?" Don't do it… if I could stop us from doing one thing it would be that. You're going to feel terrible about it after I can promise you that. This was not one of our proudest moments.

The older you get the more you will learn about yourself, yeah it's cool to go out every weekend but DON'T BE AFRAID TO TURN PLANS DOWN AND STAY HOME. We have officially hit the point where we don't want to go out every weekend and party. The point where staying home in sweats and a hoodie with Netflix is more appealing than any club or bar. TAKE TIME TO JUST DO YOU!

Girly there is so much you will experience in the next few years, some good, some bad but regardless they are going to help shape you into who we are today. Keep doing what you are doing because I think we've done a good job so far.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
