What would happen if we shared that our lives aren't perfect? What would happen if we told people the truth about what we were feeling?
What would happen if we took away the filter we put on what we post?
Would you like what you see?
Would you even acknowledge that that version of you exists?
I don't think you would.
I dare you to...
Acknowledge the fact we are human.
Acknowledge the fact we are not perfect.
Acknowledge the fact we have struggled.
Acknowledge the fact we have caused each other pain.
Acknowledge the fact that that cute party picture was taken right before you went and hid in the bathroom for the rest of the night. Own the fact that we do not live in a Hallmark movie, and you are scared you'll never find your prince charming.
Yes, I worry about the nasty responses I could get if I were to post real, honest, unfiltered pictures and statuses. I worry that people will disregard my feeling and my struggles.
I don't want to have to justify myself to my peers. I am scared that if I acknowledge my imperfections' my peers will judge me.
Judgment is a scary thing. Judgment is intimidating. Judgment is painful.
But we also cannot avoid judgment. We are judged while we walk to class. We are judged by people for the things we say to our peers.
If we were honest about our lives that judgment would hurt less. We would no longer receive those off-handed comments that used to hurt us so much, and when we do receive those comments we will be able to acknowledge the fact that they are less painful then they need to be.
So take a chance on social media and remove that Instagram filter from your life.
