What's So Appealing About YA Novels?
So many books, so little time.
Upon picking up a new book to read, I found myself scouring the shelves for something that would truly entertain me. Yes, they say "don't judge a book by its cover" but to be completely honest, that's how I find some of my favorite books. When going to somewhere such as Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million, I always seem to navigate towards the Young Adult section. While many people tend to enjoy regular fiction, fantasy, or mystery novels, I still enjoy YA novels. These books allow me to remove myself from my current college struggles and immerse myself into a different world, one with which I know will lead to a happy ending (most of the time, at least).
However, it's not all about having an escape. Some YA fiction, such as The Hate U Give and This is Where it Ends are novels that are coming of age and face real-world issues. In these novels, they tackle problems facing American society, highlighting racial injustices and mass shootings. These novels serve as informants and calls-to-action. After reading them, people want to make a change. People understand the reason behind these issues and learn why it is important to become knowledgeable and active within their respective communities to create change.
These novels also allow people to relieve parts of their lives. Although most readers are within the targeted age-range, adults love reading YA novels as it allows them to feel as if they are going back in time and experiencing everything over again. They get to remember the feels they went through from their first romance, their first transition from high school to college and even remember back to spending time with their friends. The ability to allow for reminiscence is another one of the reasons why YA books are continuously a favorite among older age groups.
Finally, YA novels are increasingly popular because the range of available books and subgenres is neverending. While other genres do have a plethora of books, these can sometimes be lengthy, and, eventually, become predictable. YA novels, on the other hand, allow the reader to become immersed in different worlds and characters, and with subgenres being added in, people can submerge themselves in multiple categories. They are also very quick to read through, which makes for an easy enjoyable read!
With all these aspects as to why YA books are enjoyable, why not pick one up today?
