What The Freaking Health?
Is it just me or does anyone else find themselves going a little bit stir crazy from all of the new health fads?
Health. Is it just me or does anyone else find themselves going a little bit stir crazy from all of the new health fads? Maybe these have always been a thing or maybe I just started noticing it due to our generation of social media influencers. I find it interesting to follow all of the #CleanLiving #OrganicOnly Instagram accounts to see other peoples views on health.
Except, when is it too much? I find myself overwhelmed by the outsourcing of information about health and different diets. How do you know how far to go? When do you know what diet is the right diet for your body? I find myself struggling with this daily in our new society. I used to just have fun, enjoying life and scrolling through Instagram, feeling light and carefree. Now I go on Instagram and all I see is, "look at my recipe for this new organic _____, it will help you fight off cancer!"
Like, what? How confusing is that? Reading from someone who has never gone to medical school or had any practice tell you that if you live your life a certain way you can fight off life-threatening diseases? This leaves me hanging, truly. Growing up, I just lived my life and never felt myself worrying about my health as much as I do now.
Maybe I'm crazy, but this is for everyone that has found themselves feeling health anxiety, or experiencing a little bit of hypochondria.
Our brain is a powerful tool and it can lead us to think the worst when we are okay. A healthy mindset will more than likely lead to a healthy life. When we read about health, or see so much about illness on a daily basis, I feel that we start to believe things may be wrong with us. Life is so short and spending it thinking about illness and what we eat and digest can take up a lot of this time. No, I'm not saying health is not important. Health is so important, but when does worrying about our health get to a point where it is concerning to our health?
Stop Googling your symptoms!
The second I get a headache, weird soreness, or any ache, I tend to Google it because out of habit because that's how we filter most of our information. Next thing you know, you're walking into your doctor's office crying about having cancer because Google said so.
This is something that I have definitely had to learn and have am still learning. A lot of people think they know so much about the body due to being able to look up any answers. Not everyone is a doctor and not everyone is a scientist. Pick and choose your battles.
Everyone has a different body and needs a different health plan. Play around with a few until you find the one that is right for you. Listening to people on Instagram all day talk about different diets and what can be good but it can also be very toxic. Remove extra stress in your life and listen to your body.
