Cedar Point Summer 2019
Too old for camp snoopy but still young at heart.
A couple of Sundays ago I got to go to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. When I was a kid, all my cousins and I would talk about each summer was going to Cedar Point. Usually, it would never pan out because of scheduling. But this year, somehow we all managed to line up our schedules and make a day out of it. Prior to our trip this summer, the last time I went to Cedar Point was in 2013. Six years ago when I was little and ugly thirteen year old. Maybe I am being harsh on myself, but then again no one looks good transitioning into their teenage years. So it was myself and my two cousins and we all decided to get in the car and drive to Sandusky.
Being from Cleveland, Cedar Point isn't really that far. At most, it's an hour away from our houses. So the drive to the place was chill. But the ride heading home was a different story and we'll touch on that. We arrived at around noon and I realized how big Cedar Point actually was and not only that but also how many people would be there. For whatever reason, it seemed like everyone and their mother was at the park that day. It was a Sunday too, I was expecting more people to be at church then at the park. We managed to get in line for one of the coasters I think it was the Blue Streak (I don't remember names) and the sign said about a fifteen-minute wait. An excellent wait time in my book. So we are in line and I see some people cut to the front of the line. These were fast-paced people and Oh MY GOD these are the most annoying line waiters at the park. Mainly because they don't have to wait at all!! It seems like the park employees just prioritize them over everyone EVERY single time. It wasn't a problem right away, until we were in line for the Millennium Force.
Now, I am a very patient person. It's hard to prove it through an article but like I am a very patient person. But when I am waiting two hours to ride a coaster in the hot sun and I see all these people just getting to go to the front of the line it can get annoying. And yeah they paid the extra money to be in those lines I get that. But there is no balance, no order with the park employees and who they prioritize and who they don't prioritize. I just hate the lines in general. I was in line for the Maverick for two and a half hours. And when I was literally fifteen feet from the ride they shut it down due to a thunderstorm warning. Now listen, I get it, metal coasters and metal carts don't mix well with lighting. But when the storm is literally ten miles away and not coming towards us then I don't see the point of stopping all of Cedar Point. We were all watching the radar and sure enough, it wasn't near us. So I literally waited in line for two hours for nothing.
I did have fun at Cedar Point. It's a really big amusement park. Next summer I am going to find some friends and just spend a weekend at Cedar Point. There was no way we were going to explore the entire park in one day. I do like that aspect of it. Park Management makes sure the park is clean and presentable to the general public. And the coasters I did ride were fun and exhilarating. The millennium force remaining my favorite after all these years. Mainly because I felt like Superman flying through Metropolis. All that fun had to come to an end and we had to head back home. Remember that storm I mentioned earlier? Well, a new one formed and was hot on our tails as we left Cedar Point. And guess who had to drive back… yep. Not only did I have to drive at night with police everywhere, but I had to drive against the wind and it was not fun at all! Plus there aren't a lot of street lights in Sandusky and on the highway. So I am supposed to be driving 50mph down a tiny road with the wind pushing the car every couple seconds with no street lights. It was one of the most annoying driving experiences I ever had to do.
We eventually made it home and let me just say that's enough cedar point for awhile. Hopefully, next summer like I mentioned earlier I can head back with some friends and basically live it up at Cedar Point. I think that's a normal thing a 20 year old would want to do. Plus Cedar Point has that $99 Pass Deal so maybe this dream can become a reality.
