How To Prepare Yourself For A Mosh Pit
There are a few things you should prepare for before going into a mosh pit.
Moshing at concerts has been around for a while now. Moshing became a thing in the late 1970's - early 1980's and has been happening ever since. Mostly found at rap / hip hop concerts, moshing has been a huge thing. Just recently I have become a big fan of mosh pits. They bring energy to a show like nothing else.
If you don't know what moshing is, the definition is "dancing to rock music in a violent manner involving jumping up and down and deliberately colliding with other dancers." When a group of people are moshing together, we call it a mosh pit. If you get claustrophobic, moshing might not be for you, but if you're up for it, moshing can be a really fun experience. However there are a few things you should know before entering the pit.
Wear closed toe shoes: When you're moshing, you're typically extremely close to other people. Theres a lot of dancing, jumping up and down, and bumping into each other. It is important that your feet are not exposed. Most of the time you're feet will get stepped on. Your shoes will also get a little dirty so I recommend wearing shoes that aren't brand new.
Wear light clothing: Like I said before, you are going to be extremely close to other people. Concerts tend to get people very hot and sweaty, so the lighter outfits, the better. Try wearing shorts and a t-shirt, or if you're a girl this is a great opportunity to wear a crop top.
Don't keep valuables on you: When people are bumping into you and the crowd is so dense you can't see the ground, it's a good idea to leave anything important at home. I wouldn't bring any important cards or Id's. Phones are usually okay because people want to take pictures and videos at shows but even then they can be easily dropped and lost.
Be prepared to be pushed around: the whole point of moshing is to just go at it. You're going to get pushed and shoved around, that's just the nature of it, so be prepared for some possible random bruises or scrapes. Typically people will help you out if you get hurt too bad (which doesn't happen too often) but just be prepared for physical contact with other people.
Drink water: Mosh pits get very hot and tiring. It's a good idea to drink water beforehand or even bring a bottle of water with you. Just know you're going to want to drink something so grab some water any chance you can. Wouldn't want to pass out in a crowd full of rowdy people.
Overall moshing is one of the most fun experiences at a concert. It's fun and a good way to get some energy out and enjoy the concert. Just be careful and make sure you're prepared for all the excitement and moving around.
