My Life In NYC–So Far

I've been living in New York City for three weeks now and I am finally beginning to feel like I am processing the things I have been doing in this city. It's currently 10 p.m. as I sit in a Starbucks in the city, trying to process the things I have been doing so I can form them into this article. I almost feel like I have been living in this city for much longer than I have been, and due to this all of my experiences seem to have merged together, as I feel like I would not be able to write on every experience I have had in this city.

I'm the type of person to completely blank out during an interview. You could ask me my favorite color, and I would forget what my favorite color is. That's how badly I forget things when I'm under pressure. If you feel the same way or would just like to get your head in the game for your interview (see what I did there?), this list is for you!

While not all of these will be covered during your interview, it's nice to know the answers to these so that if they are asked, you've already prepared your response! And when I interviewed, I felt like I was in the DCP mindset already because I had filled out my answers to 148 potential questions. I got my inspiration from the "love megan june" blog!

I had a two-week internship in Salt Lake City, Utah at KSL 5 TV. It was such an amazing experience since I had never been to the state of Utah and was warned of the state's cultural differences. Coming from the bible belt of Oklahoma and a state flatter than a pancake, seeing the mountains every day from my window was a surreal experience!

Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted recently about chatting with workers at a D.C. restaurant and finding out that many of them were also employed by Congress. They had taken up serving or bartending because the pay from their respective Congressional offices was not enough to support them alone.

This ignited a larger conversation about how much interns in all fields should be paid--which is to say, whether interns should be paid at all.

After getting the internship, I still didn't think much of it. We were told to memorize a 30-page book filled with definitions, after reading some of it I began to become excited.

1. Breath freshener

2. Hand sanitizer

3. Reusable water bottle

4. Small snacks or candy

5. Toothpicks or floss

6. Phone charger or portable battery

7. Extra contact lenses

8. Umbrella

9. Aspirin and other pills, tablets, or supplements you may need

10. Feminine products

11. Bandaids (and even a mini blister kit, if you really need it)

12. Travel-sized bottle of perfume (or a small stick of deodorant)

13. Pocket-sized mirror

14. Clear fashion tape (don’t knock it ‘till you try it!)

15. A (and I cannot stress this enough) little bit of makeup

16. An extra pen or pencil and something small to write with

17. A small map

18. Headphones

19. Some loose change and dollar bills

20. An extra pair of socks or light, comfortable shoes

14. Talk about a time when you were a team player.

15. Talk about some of your previous work experience.

Interned at KSL 5 TV

I learned what an inversion was.

I saw the high school where all three High School Musical movies were filmed!

I learned where Ted Bundy resided during his time in Salt Lake City.

Walked around the famous temple square and learned about the Mormon religion.

Saw multiple locations where the 2002 Winter Olympics were held.

Ate at the famous Red Iguana Mexican Restaurant.

Met the host of the Cold Podcast.

Visited Antelope Island

Had my first helicopter ride!

Not everyone can afford to work for free.

We are darn lucky to be able to have internships.
