Here we go
a moment of silence for Dick’s Burgers
Being a foodie and coming from Seattle kinda goes hand in hand. We have some of the best seafood, fruits, and vegetables here in the great PNW, so it's no wonder so many of these places are top-notch. Seattle is my home, so there is no city I want to lead you guys through by your palette more than this one.
5 Point Cafe came into my life on a staycation in the city with my best friend. If you're looking for a good late night spot, with mystery shots, a+ tier diner food and such an incredible staff, you'll find that right here. The cafe does get quite crowded, especially in the evening and on game days, but if you're okay with the wait, crowded is when the place is the most fun!
What you're ordering: Any food item, but you have to get the mystery shots!
Location: 415 Cedar St, Seattle, WA 98119
Pike Place Bar & Grill has quickly become my go to spot in the city. With prime real estate, the best staff and unbeatable views of the market, I come here almost everytime i venture downtown. The food is probably the best you'll find on this list, ranging from incredible seafood, to classic favorites like burgers and pasta, you can't go wrong.
What you'll order: Jell-O shots, Mimosa bucket, or anything off the cocktail menu, and to eat, Crab Cakes Benedict.
Location: 90 Pike St, Seattle, WA 98101
If you've ever been to downtown Seattle, chances are you've walked past the Ivar's located on the waterfront. Ivar's walk up window is a Seattle staple, truly a pillar of the community, with some killer clam chowder! Now, there is a very fancy sit down restaurant that you can opt-in for, but come on, the walk up window to go and then going to sit by the ocean outside is the way to go.
What you'll order: Clam Chowder, duh!
Location: 1001 Alaskan Way Ste. 102, Seattle, WA 98104
I don't really have much to say about Victrola, besides that it's easily the best coffee you'll find in the city. I tend to frequent the capitol hill location, as that's definetley the superior one. If you're the type to work while at a coffee shop, this is the perfect location.
Location: 411 15th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112
I know a lot of people are trying to eat at least semi- plant based! El Borracho is perfect for that, or just for someone who really loves Mexican food, because all though dairy and meat aren't present, all of those flavors are on display! In my humble opinion, El Borracho has the best Mexican food in the city, and it's not even close.
What you'll order: as long as you try their salsa, everything else is fair game.
Location: 1521 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98101
Now, I know I just raved about Ivar's clam chowder, and I do believe it's a+ tier, but Pike Place Chowder may inch them out. The clam chowder here is the creamiest, best seasoned chowder I have ever had. This place is constantly packed, super small and barely has any seating, inside or outside. So if you're venturing into Post Alley to eat here, plan to take your food elsewhere!
What you'll order: Clam Chowder or a lobster roll!
Location: 1530 Post Alley, Seattle, WA 98101
Dick's is THE Seattle staple! Is it one am and a concert just got out and you're starving? Go to Dick's! My personal favorite location rests in Queen Anne, making it the perfect post Climate Pledge arena show meal. The food is cheap, and one of my favorite greasy guilty pleasures!
What you'll order: A deluxe burger, fries, and two things of tartar sauce
Location: 500 Queen Anne Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109
Listen, if a place is good enough for the mayor of flavor town himself, Guy Fieri, then it's good enough for me and you. Bok a Bok is a Korean/Southern fusion that we don't even think we could have come up with in our wildest dreams. They're always playing ‘The Office’ (taste!) and always have a line, so get there early, or go late at night!
What you’ll order: Bulgogi tacos!
Location: 1427 10th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122
Zeke’s has easily become my favorite hangout spot in the city. From top-notch pizza that breaks the mold of what a traditional pizza is, to the best IPAs in town, Zeke’s is where you want to be. Plus, if you sit at just the right table you can eat with a perfect view of the Space Needle, doesn't get much more Seattle-core than that.
What you'll order: Thai Chicken Pizza (I get level four spice, but you do you)
Location: 419 Denny Way, Seattle, WA 98109
I went on a date here, so maybe it's a bit tarnished, but the bread is unbeatable. Not much more to say, it's in a cute location on the waterfront, and has good food, go!
What you'll order: any form of soup in a bread bowl
Location: 1301 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA 98101
You probably rarely take time out of your day to think about the eating utensils you use for every meal. Westerners will use forks, spoons, and knives; sometimes, they might use the occasional spork.
Personally, I also grew up using chopsticks. East Asians have been using chopsticks for over two millennia, but they have spread to many other parts of Asia including Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. I was encouraged to use them because they were a staple of Asian tradition and our ancestors, but I took for granted the benefits that using chopsticks would give me. Read on to find out why you might want to consider rethinking your go-to kitchen utensil.
Because of the nature of chopsticks, you can't pick up as much food in one bite as you could with a fork or spoon. Naturally, you eat your food in smaller bites and more slowly altogether. While I know not everyone likes to eat food this way, it's proven to be healthier. When you eat slowly, it leads to better digestion, weight loss, and hydration. And why not spend more time with the person you're eating with?
Research shows that using chopsticks lowers the glycemic index of the food that you eat. After consuming a meal containing carbohydrates, a person's blood glucose levels briefly increase before reverting back to normal, and the glycemic index (GI) measures these changes in blood sugar levels. Choosing low GI foods can benefit those with diabetes or the desire to lose weight. Furthermore, using chopsticks even provides coordination training, which is helpful for kids, those with brain damage, or someone who is trying to regain use of their limbs.
In my utensil drawer at home, my family can probably store 20 pairs of chopsticks in the same space that stores 5 forks or spoons. In a restaurant that has hundreds of utensils, it would save a great deal of storage space if chopsticks were used. Because of their lower surface area, it also is easier to wash chopsticks compared to forks, spoons, or knives.
If households and restaurants invest in more chopsticks, there would be less of a need for forks and spoons. Obviously, people would need soup spoons, but chopsticks could still be used in place of most forks and spoons. Using reusable chopsticks instead of wooden, disposable ones would not only save additional money, but also benefit the environment.
When you eat your food more slowly and in smaller bites, you savor your meals more. You are more mindful of each bite, and you enjoy food for its taste as opposed to thinking of it as something that fills up your stomach. You definitely don't have to do this for every meal, but it's good to do from time to time.
Now, I'm not saying that chopsticks should be implemented into households and restaurants without caution. In 2006, China imposed a chopstick tax in an attempt to cut down deforestation as a result of chopstick production. Just like the fact that people are bringing attention to the importance of metal straws over plastic straws, it is imperative that we start using reusable wooden, plastic, or metal chopsticks as well. Do your part by investing in a pair of reusable chopsticks that you can use the next time you order Chinese takeout.
Stop what you're doing and take stock of what your body needs.
Sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses and other times you need to slow down and check-in with your body. What do you need? Have you forgotten to do any important tasks today? This is your reminder to take a second to breathe and check-in with yourself, mentally and physically.
Do you need to eat a real meal today? Rice Krispy Treats and chocolate chips do not count as a meal, so please go find yourself a source of protein, or at the very least some carbs to tie yourself over, until you can obtain a real meal. Yes, that meal can include more chocolate, but only if you eat something at least slightly nutritious beforehand. I know fitting time to eat into your schedule can be difficult, but if you can aim for two full meals today, I bet that would make your body very happy.
If you're a college student, chances are you're also a dehydrated college student. Between running to classes, going to student organization meetings/practices/rehearsals, and homework, nobody has time for trivial things like filling up water bottles! However, if you forget to drink water, you won't have the energy for things like homework and theater rehearsals, so for the love of Betty White please go drink some water!
Contrary to popular belief, you cannot survive college on a diet of Red Bulls, Rockstars, three hours of sleep, and a (fleeting) God Complex. If your body is more caffeine than man at this point, maybe try cutting back on the coffee and starting to fall into bed before 3 a.m. I'm not even saying you have to get eight hours of sleep every night, but a solid six to seven hours will do wonders for your soul.
Unclench your body parts that are clenched, crack your body parts that need cracked, and shake out the rest of your body if you need to. Rub out those knots in your neck, rotate your wrists, and take a deeeeeep breath. Doesn't it feel good to sit up straight and de-zombify yourself? A little movement can go a long way towards getting rid of that tense feeling in your shoulders. Oh, and don't forget to blink if you've been staring at a screen for an extended period of time!
I push through the bad days because I know the next day will be better. I wake up and I move and go out and see friends and make myself dinner and I am happy. And I am so proud of myself.
Earlier last week, I woke up from a nap craving a grilled cheese sandwich. Specifically, I was craving a grilled spinach and goat cheese sandwich. I have no clue why, but I woke up desperate for this sandwich. So you know what I did? I got up from my bed, slapped on a little lipgloss (because I felt like it), and took a university bus to Walmart and bought everything I needed to make a grilled spinach and goat cheese sandwich.
This does not sound like a big momentous event, and it really wasn't, but in some ways it kind of was. See, last year or even six months ago, if I had woken up from a nap craving a specific sandwich you know what would have happened? I would have stayed put on the couch or the bed, growing hungrier and hungrier at the thought of this sandwich, but I would never have dreamed of getting up and making it. I would have told myself I didn't have the time to go to the store and I had more important things to do. Basically, I'd come up with any excuse not to move.
Does that sound lazy? Oh, you bet. But for ages, I struggled with depression and disordered eating (which I've talked a lot about before), so getting up from a nap to make myself food was pretty much a task straight from hell for me. But last week, I did it. I got up, went to the store, and made myself that sandwich right as I got home.
I know that it doesn't seem like a big deal, but I was so shocked by myself. I mean, just ask my mother: my summer was spent rotating myself from one couch to another to my bed and back again. I was not in a good place, mentally or emotionally. And I've been telling myself that now I am.
I've been saying I feel happier and more energetic; my friends say I look better and happier. But last week I really proved it to myself. I am better. I am happier. I was hungry, so I decided to eat. I wanted a specific meal, so I went out to the store to get what I needed to make it. I ate three grilled spinach and goat cheese sandwiches that night. Three. Whole. Sandwiches. (Now this is a very big deal from someone who was never able to finish more than half of any kind of sandwich for over a year.)
Despite the momentous sandwich day, I still have my bad days. There are still days where I don't want to eat and it takes too long to get out of bed. But those days aren't the norm anymore. They'll come the day after a big project was due or the morning after I went to bed way too late after staying up with friends.
The bad days come, but they no longer stay. And I'll be completely honest with you: I didn't think that was ever going to happen. I thought I was going to be stuck with one bad day after another for the rest of my life, that I would spend the rest of my life moving from one couch to the next and to my bed and back again and completely avoiding the kitchen.
But that's not how it is anymore. I push through the bad days because I know the next day will be better. I wake up and I move and go out and see friends and make myself dinner and I am happy. And I am so proud of myself.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm about to go make myself a few more of those sandwiches.
It's good, but not THAT good, people!
With all the political craziness currently happening, you'd think America would be more focused on vital issues than which fast-food chain has the best chicken sandwich, but apparently Popeyes' sandwich is so good that it created numerous 911 calls and serious violent outbursts.

While I still can't believe that it's 2019 and these are the issues that we choose to award so much attention to, I have to admit that I was kind of excited to see what all the hype was about. I'm more of Wendy's girl, but I went out of my comfort zone to visit this foreign fast-food restaurant.
Even though it didn't appear to be very busy, the wait to get my food seemed a little ridiculous.
I felt as though time was moving slower because I was starving, but the clock validated my impatience when I realized I had been waiting for a damn sandwich for nearly fifteen minutes.
I kept my frustrations to myself because I'm not one to have a “can I talk to the manager" type of attitude. But the annoyance did not end there.
Paying is usually the easiest part: all you have to do is hand over your method of payment.
I somehow managed to become confused by how to do so with the unique revolving door that they call a drive-thru window. I pulled up ready to make a person-to-person transaction, but what actually happened was that a lady on the other side of the window was apparently directing me in a very muffled voice to put my card down, and she would turn it towards her.
It took me way longer than it should have to realize that the window was never actually going to open.
I waited a few minutes more and was finally granted the sandwich that stole Twitter's heart. I raced home to put users' obsession to the test:

It actually tasted very good. The perfect proportions of crispy and juicy.
Was it better than Chik-fil-A's chicken sandwich? I think so. And, of course, I can always appreciate a brioche bun.
It had just the right amount of flavor, I just hope this one wasn't made on a trash can.
