I'm not saying high school can't be fun, but it's no reason to actually want to stay.
The one thing I hated about TV and certain books were the cliche high schools. They all had their jocks and bitchy cheerleaders. There were several cliques and some included those who didn't have anyone to hang out with so they made friends with each other, which is cool but it's not.
Like there are probably, most likely, possible schools that have that sort of set up and if so, good luck. Every story I read, most of the jocks in the school are complete jerks and then there's this one person who could change them. I mean it's a good plot line if it can place itself above the rest of cliches. But I'm not here to discuss cliche high schools.
High school in itself seems to be where kids decide that's where their best years are. There are some who don't want to leave the comfort of high school. I mean you make your friends at different times in your life and high school can be that time. But then in high school, there's so much drama and there are rumors going around the school and I was amused at how often that happened. It was always something going and by the end of the day, everyone knew your business. It had you wondering how everyone knows exactly what you did and said, yet cops have a hard time getting someone to confess. Get you a couple of high school kids on your team, the whole department going to know the when, where, what and how of the case plus some.
For me, high school was a place I didn't care too much to be. I went because I had to and because it was my only route to get to high school which would lead to college and take me away from my hometown. But I also fell into the trap that whatever I did in high school would follow me everywhere I went. It didn't. Not at all. The only people who will know anything I've done in high school is those who went there with me.
College was a brand new place, a new environment for me to learn myself and not let high school Qulea take form. While I'm still the same person, in some form, I'm different. I've grown and that's why high school is overrated. High school doesn't last forever and don't hope that it will. Don't have the idea that who you are in high school will be who you are for the rest of your life because you will age and grow and learn so much more about yourself, especially with the situations you find yourself in.
