College is supposed to be the time of your life, right? It is the time where you get to truly transform yourself and discover who it is that you really want to be.

With managing a social life, a part-time job, good grades and that relationship with that boy or girl you know isn't good for you, you could feel mentally overwhelmed. Mental health is something that everyone needs to be aware of because it's important to take care of yourself.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness states that more than 75 percent of all mental health conditions occur before the age of 24. There are a variety of different mental health problems that college students struggle with, such as depression and anxiety ranging up to other more serious psychiatric disorders.

Freshman and Sophomore year are when you are getting adjusted to the college lifestyle and being away from home and your family. This is where anxiety and depression come into play because you may be feeling alone, scared or lost.

Junior and Senior year are when you are finally settled into your major of study but are trying to figure out your next steps after college. This may cause you to feel scared, unprepared, stressed and frustrated.

Judith Green, director of the Campus Center for Health and Counseling Services at Ramapo College, said that millennials hold onto negative emotions which can lead to self-injury.

While mental health issues are real and present challenges, it's important to know that you are not alone. There are many students that are facing the same issues that you are facing, so don't be afraid to speak out and seek help.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness states that good exercise, a good diet and good amount of sleep are important. For those who don't know, your physical and mental health are connected, so it's important to take care of your body, which will help take care of your mind.

"Often it's the deepest pain which empowers you to grow into your highest self," says Karen Salmansohn

Keep an open mind and remember that it's okay to seek help, but you should never do it for anyone else, do it for yourself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
