How To Survive Your Freshman Year Of College

Your freshman year of college consists of a bunch of "firsts," and hopefully if you keep these things in mind you'll find it to be a lot more enjoyable. Here's how to survive your freshman year of college.

When packing for school visit Bed, Bath and Beyond. While you're there, buy everything you see. I promise you'll need it.

Don't go home the first week, no matter how alone you might feel or how badly you miss your family, everyone else is in the same boat. Going home right away only makes it harder to return. Trust me.

You will be homesick and as much as you might not want to admit it you will miss your parents. Leaving the nest can be difficult but it's so worth it in the long run. Besides, nothing beats going home to a home-cooked meal and someone else doing your laundry.

The people you talk to the first couple weeks, may be just that. Don't start off your freshman year believing that you're going to find a life-long best friend. Make sure you find a group of friends that you enjoy spending time with and make some memories.

You might not be best friends with your roommate and that is perfectly okay. Learning to coexist with others is a part of life but just make sure you monitor your food...some people have no boundaries.

Try not to eat everything you see. The freshman 15 is not just a rumor, it happens. When you realize that every meal is buffet style it'll be hard to always head right to the salad bar instead of the dessert table.

We get that you're used to going to school at the break of dawn, but believe us when we tell you not to take an 8am class. You will not want to get up that early, and your attendance may suffer because of it. Missing one class is no big deal but any more than that can really set you back.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket, try everything that interests you! Who knows you may be the world best Zumba dancer but you'll never know until you try!

Procrastination is key. You will soon become the master in the art of procrastination. Binge watching Grey's Anatomy while writing my essay? Piece of cake.

Feeling stressed? Dance it out! A dance party is always the answer, trust me.

Netflix is love, Netflix is life. If you haven't invested in possibly the best thing ever created, it's time to come out from under the rock you've been living under.

Make sure you study for all of your exams, and not just for 20 minutes. In high school you could take an exam without studying and get a solid B, but if you don't study in college you'll receive a solid 13 percent. Don't worry though, it happens to everyone eventually.

Finals will kill you, just know that going into them (but you'll make it through I promise). You'll feel extremely relieved walking out of your last exam and then you can treat yourself to some ice cream in the dining hall.

If you haven't found any of these tips thus far to be important, remember this one thing. C's get degrees. This is not just for the underachievers, because telling yourself this once a day may be the difference between a mental breakdown and surviving your first year of college.

Don't forget to have fun. Everyone will tell you to study hard and focus on school but time sure does fly. Make sure to cherish every moment because soon enough it will all be over.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
