Recruitment is a stressful time for active members but PNMs as well. It doesn't have to be though! From all of us past PNMs, here are a few tips to help you make it through the weekend!
1. Breathe
Seriously, just relax. If you are feeling uneasy, just take a few deep breathes and realize that it is going to be OK. A little secret, the actives are probably more nervous than you, I know I was during my first recruitment as an active.
2. Be Yourself
I know, I know, so cliche of me to say but really, just be yourself. It will make conversations with the actives go so much smoother and actually make your desicions so much easier! Being yourself will help you see if you deep down really do see yourself in the chapter.
3. Wear Comfortable Shoes
You are going to be walking from house to house and some days walking all over those houses. I know heels and wedges are tempting and so cute with the outfit you picked out for the day but just don't do it, your feet will hate you, you will hat yourself and your will have so many blisters.
4. Drink the Water
Most houses will offer you water, you may not be thirty but just take the water to sip on. You are going to be talking so much over the next week so you just need to make sure you are hydrated and keeping your throat moist (I know, so sorry, terrible word) but really, so many girls loose their voices every year so just drink the water!
5. Get your School Work Done in Advance
You will have no time. I know you think you'll have some free time but you won't, that free time will be spent sleeping an eating. Just slowly get everything done and then you won't even have to worry about it!
6. Sleep
As stated above, spend your free time sleeping when you can. On top of classes and maybe work if you have a job, you are going to get mentally and physically exhausted from all the talking added to your routine so just sleep as much as possible on top of eating and drinking water!
7. Have an Open Mind
You will be constantly hearing these words but it is so true. I know so many girls who weren't sure about their chapters going through the process as a PNM and now they could not see themselves in any other chapter. Loving your chapter is not always "love at first sight", it sometimes take some time to warm up to them and realize that these are your people.
I know recruitment might sound a little scary after hearing all of that but it really is not! You just need to make sure that you are taking care of yourself so you don't get overwhelmed. Don't worry! Everything will turn out OK and just as it is supposed to!
