The summer is an awesome time to attend concerts. Whether it’s your favorite band at a big arena, a cool festival or just a local band playing in the park, you have to be prepared.
If you ever ask me what I am looking forward to, chances are it’s an upcoming concert. I am a huge music fan and I really enjoy seeing my favorites, live. I've been going to concerts regularly since I was in the sixth grade. So I would almost consider it a hobby; I've been to more than one date on a single tour and even camped out. Over the years I have gone to countless concerts along with a lifetime of memories, I have also picked up the dos and don’t’s.
1. The Basics: Buying Tickets
Purchasing tickets can be very stressful and expensive. First, look to see if the certain artist is coming to your area. If they’re a popular artist, try to get tickets right when they go on sale. How do you do that? Look for when and what time tickets go on sale. Also, look for special promotions. Some artists have pre-sales with codes, so fans can get tickets earlier. In addition, some credit card companies have promotions that allow you to purchase tickets ahead of the general public. It’s super important to look these things up before purchasing tickets.

BE AWARE OF SCAMS! I can’t tell you how many people I have met that have been victims of ticket scams. Don’t ever take the risk of buying tickets from a third party website, not matter how bad you want to. It’s so devastating to get to the venue just to find out your tickets are fake. If you are unable to get tickets, just wait. Ticketmaster now has a feature where fans can resell tickets. Also, a lot of ticketing companies release more tickets as the show approaches! So constantly check the site.
2. Get Information About the Venue
Do your research! Look up the venue that you’re going to. Some have very specific rules about what you can and can’t bring in. Some venues have restrictions on bag sizes, cameras and outside food. Also, leave your selfie stick at home. Every concert I went to this summer, I have witnessed at least one person throw away their selfie stick. In addition, look at their parking policies, some venues offer very limited parking with high prices. So, if you can, get dropped off or take public transportation.
3. Stay Hydrated
It’s very exciting going to a concert, especially if you have been looking forward to it for a long time. But it’s important to stay hydrated and to eat food. You do not want to pass out at the concert, because trust me, it happens. I personally recommend getting something to eat before the concert. Although most venues offer food, usually their prices are very high. Definitely purchase a drink though, concerts can be long and you don’t want to get sick in the summer heat.
4. Bring Money
To do anything above, you need money. Bring some extra cash for emergencies for food and drinks. Also, it’s always fun to buy merchandise from the concert!

5. Make a Plan With Your Friends
Concerts can get hectic and phones can die before the concert is over. So, in case you get separated from your friends, make sure you have a meeting place for when the concert is over. Also, try to bring a portable charger in case your phone dies.
6. General Admission
If the concert you’re going to is general admission, be careful. General admission can get pretty crazy, especially if there are a lot of dedicated fans. I always recommend getting to the venue early for general admission, just to secure a spot up front. Or, you can just push yourself to the front, but be aware you will make enemies. Even if you can't get up front, don't worry about it. It's all about the music, so if you're all the way in the back or up in the nose bleed seats, it'll still be fun. Make the most of it!

7. Clothing
Dress comfortably and appropriately. I know everyone wants to look good at shows, but keep in mind you’re most likely going to be standing for hours. So I highly recommend comfortable shoes. Also, if your venue is outside, make sure to check the weather beforehand.
8. Have Fun
There’s something so special about concerts. Every once in a while put down your phone or camera, and just take it all in. Before you know it, it’ll be over. So have fun and make awesome memories. But, remember to stay safe!
Concerts can be such an amazing experience. I recommend everyone go at least once to see his or her favorite artist. It’s something you’ll never forget.
