Why I Support Bernie Sanders

No, it isn’t because I want “free” stuff.

Why I Support Bernie Sanders

When I tell people I support Bernie Sanders, or when people take one look at my laptop and see the overload of “Bernie 2016” stickers overrunning my laptop, they usually roll their eyes. I’m a college student, of course I would love Bernie Sanders. I mean, he is promising free college, didn’t ya hear?! I am a young educated woman, I know that there is no such thing as “free stuff”. Nothing is free. So, no, I don’t support Bernie Sanders because he is “promising” “free” stuff.


Why I support Bernie Sanders you ask? Well, for me it is the stability. In a society, country, and even a world that is constantly changing, it is nice to have something, or I guess someone, that provides some kind of stability. When you look at Bernie Sander’s history and his experience in the political world, he has been very consistent, which is hard to find. I am not saying politicians can’t change their mind, and I don’t think it should be held against a politician if they do change their mind. My mind is continuously changing because there is always more information to be learned, but it is rare to find anyone, let alone a politician, that is that consistent his whole life when it came to his career.

Another reason I fully support Bernie Sanders (yes, there is more than one reason), is because of his stance on social justice issues. Unlike most politicians, he is recognizing that there is a problem and that is the first step in fixing the issues. We want to use “political correctness” and we want to brush some things under the rug, but that only makes it worse. Bernie has confronted the problem head on, but one man can’t do it alone and that is why I stand behind him to create that change in our country, in our world, for the betterment of our society.

I am a “glass is half full” kind of person. I have a lot of hope. I always see the good. Maybe I am a dreamer or maybe I am not being realistic, but Bernie Sanders holds all the qualities I hope to be whenever I begin my career in politics. He proves to me that I don’t have to be this corrupt politician who throw away all my morals in order to get to where I am going. He proves to me, personally, that with hard work and doing what you are supposed to, which is serve the public and your constituents, you don’t need to have Super PACs or go against what you believe in to win. What you have to do, is make your presence known in your community. Remember names, remember stories, and most importantly remember who you are. My favorite quote by Maya Angelou is, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. This quote is exactly how Bernie Sanders lives his life. He inspires me and I just want him to be able to inspire more people as the leader and face of this country. He is the best representation of what our country should be: pure hearted, assertive, and hardworking.
