Heroes are awesome. Period. They save the world, they beat up the bad guys, and they have cool costumes and are generally cool. However they also teach us a lot of moral values that we all can follow. I am not going to stick to one type of superhero or a specific group of superheroes or even if they are Marvel or DC superheroes. Here are some moral values that super heroes taught me:
Defend those who can’t defend themselves.
This is something that everyone can easily see right off the bat. But this can mean anything really, for instance, you see a person in school who is being teased and they can’t defend themselves. Normally some people would just ignore and say, "Glad I am not that loser." But if you have learned anything from superhero movies, you would have gone up to those jerks and tell them to lay off or contacted the proper authorities. Now I am not saying that you should straight up fight others or put yourself in any type of danger, but rather find solutions to situations before they get any worse for both parties. If things do take a violent turn, you should call the police and have them handle it.
Appearances are not everything.
While most heroes wear costumes and have capes, other heroes were transformed and they were made into something they did not like. Like The Thing from the Fantastic Four who was changed by cosmic rays from space into a huge rock man…thing; he did not ask to be what he changed into. But over time, he grew to accept himself for what he had become. He eventually did find love with a blind girl, and she accepted him not for his appearance, but for his personality. We can’t control our appearance. We have to learn to accept ourselves for who we are, not what we look like.
Don’t let your weakness define you.
Most heroes usually don’t have weaknesses or rather they don’t have many. But some heroes have weaknesses. Some are bigger than others, like Daredevil (aka Matt Murdock) who is a blind hero and lawyer. He trained himself to use his blindness to his advantage. There are things we can’t control, like blindness or missing a limb. But instead of letting the weakness get the better of you, you either make that weakness your strength or learn to overcome that weakness.
You’re never alone.
Sometimes a villain can be too much for a hero. When that happens, that hero may have to call for some help. Such is the case for the Avengers or the Justice League. They sometimes have to fight bad guys that are too strong or they have to save people from something that they could not possibly do on their own. With that being said, you don’t have to do EVERYTHING yourself. There are times when you have a project to do and you need some help completing it. So you split the work evenly and work to get the project done. Point is, you need help every now and then and sometimes other may need your help.
So that is what superheroes have taught me. Not everything will apply to all things in your life. Or the superhero you like the most was not listed, but the point of this is that everyone is able to do good things in their lives and that you are able to better yourselves. Everyone has a hero inside.
