While growing up, watching superhero cartoons and reading comics was just part of my everyday life. I grew up watching and reading X-Men, Spider-Man and my favorite, Batman, in the corners of my school libraries. I loved getting to know these characters and connecting with them. Superheroes inspired me to always do the right thing and taught me important lessons — back then, reading comics and watching superhero cartoons was seen as being “weird.” But today, we have superhero movies.
They are not a new thing, since superhero
movies have been coming out since the 1920s. Today, we have so many superhero
movies, it's almost insane, Studios have been making a ton of superhero movies, so many
that we have a new one coming out every summer. So many studios are
making these types of movies that I feel overwhelmed and forced to choose
between which superhero movie I want to see. Not a lot of people are able to
see every movie during the summer, and having so many movies to choose from, it's
hard to wait till it comes out on DVD or for rent. For me, superhero movies feel over done at this point.
There are only so many origin stories I can handle. Don’t get me wrong, I am
not one of those people who hates any changes from the original source
material. I understand that changes must be made and that changes can improve
the original story; I just want something original. I don’t want to see any
more re-makes, or anything that is based on a book. It's sad that so very
few movies today are original content. I want to go into a movie knowing
nothing about the story or the characters. I want something new from Hollywood.
Hollywood wants to keep audiences happy, and that means
giving them more of what they want, which is more superhero movies. It gets
boring after a while — think about how many Spider-Man movies and remakes we have
had. It’s getting kind of crazy. I’m also happy to go to the movies and enjoy a really good
film, but superhero movies don’t get me excited as they once did. I always
go see the newest superhero movie and some have been really good and some ... not
so good. I’ll just keep waiting for Hollywood to switch it up and bring
something new and original.
