Awards. Jokes by Ricky Gervais. Drinking. Red Carpet. These are all the attributes that make up the Golden Globes. But the real golden moment is when actors, actresses and directors get recognized for their hard work.
The famous and heartwarming Leonard DiCaprio won his third Golden Globe for best actor in a drama category on Jan. 10. His standing ovation said it all and during his acceptance speech, he said, “I want to share this award with all the First Nations peoples represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world.”
After going to great lengths to create the film The Revenant by working through extremely cold weather conditions and having to eat raw bison liver, DiCaprio rightfully deserved this award and there is no doubt that he is an actor that people of older and younger generations have great respect for.
Unsurprisingly, this film was a huge success this year and the director, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, won an award for best picture and best director. Not only that, but DiCaprio is also nominated for an Oscar as actor in a leading role and The Revenant is nominated again for best picture. This would be his first ever Academy Award in his 27 year career if he wins.
Another big hit, especially for Lady Gaga’s little monsters, was that she won her first Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a limited series or a motion picture made for television for American Horror Stories: Hotel. She said, “'This is one of the greatest moments of my life!” Interestingly enough, she even mentioned that before she wanted to sing, her dream was to be an actress.
While Lady Gaga seemed shocked when she won her Golden Globe, she surprisingly didn’t thank her new fiancé Taylor Kinney during her acceptance speech.
One of the best comedic moments during the show was while the award for Best Score was being presented, Jamie Foxx made a Steve Harvey joke, referring to when Steve Harvey accidentally read the wrong name on the card at Miss Universe. Foxx announced Straight Outta Compton as the winner instead of Ennio Morricone for his score of The Hateful Eight.
And of course, what would any award show be without the red carpet and the gorgeous designer dresses? Jennifer Lopez never fails to impress as she wore her beautiful yellow dress on the red carpet and other crowd favorites included Jane Fonda, Malin Akerman, Gina Rodriguez and Alicia Vikander.
Stay tuned for the Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 28.
