There are a lot of things to look forward to when summer is approaching: vacations, time off school, and warmer weather.
But, something that I personally enjoy to do in the summer that I look forward is going to the movies, and this 2016 has a lot of potential to make a lot of big box office films this summer season. That alone has been getting people extremely excited to hit the theaters, however, even though Summer 2016 seems to have a promising summer of movies to accommodate both the young and the old, it is a fact that some will be good and other's will not, but that is okay. That is okay because I may not be able to speak for everyone, but there is no way I could afford or make the time to see every movie, nor be interested in every movie either. But, I think as a consistent movie lover and goer, (and a little research) I narrowed down the 5 movies to see this summer, that are considered to become the biggest summer blockbusters, and most anticipated by fans.
The trailers for the following movies will be provided at the bottom*
1. Central Intelligence
Release Date:June 17th | Rating: PG-13
Well, the first question to ask: Who doesn't want to see this movie's main character is the hilarious Dwayne the 'Rock' Johnson? Time and time again he has guaranteed to make almost any movie he acts in more funny, more action-packed, and more fun for the whole family. I've certainty enjoyed his addition to the Fast and Furious family, and had me in tears when watching the Game Plan. This comedy is also set to include a well-known Kevin Hart, Ed Helms (for any obsessed Office fans), and Aaron Paul to add more laughter to the film. The film follows the story of a bullied geek named Bob (Johnson), who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent, who comes home to his high school reunion where he enlists the help of Calvin (Harris), the former "hot shot" at their school, now an accountant missing his glory days. From watching the trailer, compared to the other movies to come out this summer, it is anticipated to be a summer hit not only because of the cast, but the comedic writing, and action provided. Johnson and Hart are a hilarious dynamic duo that have great chemistry together. I'm serious, from the MTV movie awards, and either of the two's Instagram accounts, it's quite comical, and the main reason why I believe this movie will be a movie to remember this summer.
2. The Legend of Tarzan
Release Date: July 1, 2016 | Rating: PG
After seeing the trailer debut, I have to admit, my inner child has definitely got me excited to see this movie, and jammed out to "Stranger's Like Me" for the rest of the night. Disney's original Tarzan had a huge impact on my childhood, being one of my favorite movies, loved by me and 90s' children everywhere, that automatically intrigues older fans of the original cartoon to see the new movie. With also recent success from The Jungle Book, it has also gotten more than enough people excited, making it a high probability of becoming a popular summer blockbuster. Besides two veterans actors Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Waltz to appear in the movie, the cast are relatively new to the big screen, and seeing the new faces to hit Hollywood is always interesting. One of the main reasons is why this movie is set to break records is because the movie is really good for the whole family because even though it rates at PG for kids, it also provides action and adventure that include some scenes of violence, and language.
BTW ladies, did you see who plays Tarzan? Alexander Skarsgard...
UGH... I mean look that beautiful man!
Did I convince you guys yet??
3. Independence Day: Resurgence
Release Date: June 24th, 2016 | Rating: TBD
Since we're already on the 90s' throwback, I might as well continue with the next choice on my list. We always knew they were coming back, and now it's here, whether you like it or not, Independence Day redefined the movie industry, being one of the most remember films of all time. With the movie to be released next month the new sequel has extreme high expectations to deliver at the box office for two main reasons.
1. With it being the year of 2016, and the Sci-Fi / Action the movie is presented with, fans are looking forward to enhanced CGI of the movie that was not available twenty years ago. This will make the action look cooler, and more realistic.
2. Most importantly, one of the most memorable parts of the first Independence Day, was the acting, one who stood out, but will not be in the second movie is the beloved Will Smith. Therefore, this makes his absence from the movie a potential make or break for the film. #RIPSTEVEHILLER
Now two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is again faced with a new extra Solar threat. Why I think this film will be extremely successful is because even though Will Smith is not in attendance, the film does bring back several key base members from the original film including Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldbulm, Judd Hirsch and Vivica A. Fox, on top of new set of characters as well. With rumors circulating of making Independence Day a whole trilogy of movies, and how long it took to film this movie alone, it makes fans like me curious to see the final product of the movie, and what comes next.
4. Suicide Squad
Release Date: August 5th, 2016 | Rating: TBD
When a secret government is desperate enough to recruit help from imprisoned supervillans, that already makes the movie interesting. But this movie really gets it hype by being adapted from the DC comic series including Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and a completely redefined Joker played by Jared Leto. With the huge let down from the Batman v Superman movie this past year, Suicide Squad has the ability to provide a redemption of the DC movies that have been badly made in the past. This movie is also unique itself to have villains embarking on the heroic mission. The trailer was edgy, and unique, I never really have seen a "superhero" trailer while playing a top pop song in the background. The movie has potentials to be somewhat of a dark action humor movie, my boyfriend described them I think perfectly as "DC's Avengers" , and as a huge fan of Marvel and all of their movies, I look forward to seeing this movie in August. I think that again the edgy characters, the natural excitement of the Joke, and the non-stop action will be able to make big bucks their opening weekend.
(internal screaming!) I am almost 21 years old, and this is the movie I am most excited for, I have been waiting for this... forever! I LOVED Finding Nemo, if you haven't seen it, first off why?! and second, stopreading my article and watch it right now. I remember seeing Finding Nemo with my cousins at the Drive-In Theater, and we spent the entire drive home speaking whale to each other. Dory was one of those unique, fun characters that you connect with as a child, and still enjoy today because Ellen DeGeneres is also another beautiful soul to walk this earth. It was a even bigger surprise to fans because it wasn't even a "finding nemo 2" it was Finding Dory, which will tell the story of where she came from, and how she lost her memory! There is really so much excitement this movie, everyone is getting pumped to see it, families will bring their children to see it, and I think will be the summer movie of the year.
