Musings on what's going to happen for the new semester

Sunset Of Summer Vacation
Steve Rotermund

Whether you're a recently graduated high schooler or a college student going back for yet another semester, this is what we're all thinking as we get ready for the upcoming fall semester.

1. Get ready for social suicide. With each new semester of school, the classes get harder, the homework takes more time, and you have less free time to see friends. But hey, you haven't seen your friends for the majority of the summer, and it will be nice to see them again. Hopefully without the drama.

2. Whelp, time to say goodbye to any spending money I had over the summer. No time, no money, more problems. What a joy.

3. For those of you with jobs, whoa, good for you. Your social life is probably going to be even /more/ dead! Congradulations. But hey, at least you're going to have some money coming in. Even if it's not all that much.

4. Wow, I didn't spend my summer vacation actually doing anything. I don't know about you, but I spent the majority of my summer cooped up inside because it was just way too hot. Curse this terrible weather. At least fall is going to be cooler and I can actually go out. Sometimes.

5. Wait, new professors are going to be a thing. I wonder if that one professor from that one class I hated is still teaching? I hope the people in their class do better than I did if that's the case.

6. Wait, wait, it's almost fall. That means there are literally the best holidays coming?? Holy crap, I can't believe Halloween is only two and a half months away- Am I too old for trick or treating?

7. Does this mean that I'm going to have even more friends because I have more classes? Even though I have even less free time?

8. I'm literally so glad that I have an excuse to get out of the house. Being cooped up at home sucks. Even if it is just for school.

9. Hopefully all my friends from last semester that I haven't talked to over the summer are okay. I wonder how many of them aren't going to be here this semester?

10. So glad I'm in college and not high school. I'm a grown adult, and I can honestly say that at least the "best years of my life" are over, because high school was terrible.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
