Summer is one of the greatest times of the year: refreshing drinks, warm weather, fun vacations, fabulous festivals, great food, and above all, movies. Summer blockbusters have become a staple of the laid-back summer lifestyle, and while some are hits, some are huge misses. Here is the list of summer successes and summer sorrows that will make your movie-going experiences happy ones.
Musts:
Mad Max Fury Road
This movie kicks serious BUTT. With little dialogue, a lot of explosions, a very attractive Tom Hardy, and a supermodel-esque cast, George Miller's most recent Mad Max addition creates a futuristic world that is the stuff of nightmares while the female leads take control and remind you why it is fun to go to the movies.
Entourage
It might not be as high quality as the series, but any time E, Vince, Drama, Turtle and Ari get together, you know it's going to be a great time.
The Avengers
Not as great as the first one, but still full of quirky, quick humor and your favorite super heroes.
Jurassic World
BECAUSE DINOSAURS ARE EXTINCT, AND THIS MOVE LETS YOU PRETEND THEY AREN'T. On a more serious level, Stephen Spielberg was involved in this production, promising that it will most likely live up to the high expectations the previous films have set. Plus, it includes up-and-coming superstar, Chris Pratt.
Ant-Man
PAUL RUDD PRETENDING TO BE AN ANT SUPERHERO/FORMER CRIMINAL. What could go wrong ... ?
Minions
A nice break from all the live-cast/real action summer movies, Minions brings you back down to earth with your favorite yellow friends as they endure yet another hilarious adventure.
Vacation
Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, Chris Hemsworth and Chevy Chase team up for this "Vacation" reboot that looks to be as funny as the originals. Even if it isn't, the movie will most likely prove good and humorous, which is what summer is all about.
Southpaw
Jake Gyllenhaal proves his acting chops yet again in this boxing drama, showing determination, and the strength of love and family amidst tragedy.
Fantastic 4
While it may be a little quick for a remake, this young cast and bigger budget might be the facelift that the superhero gang needed.
Busts:
Age of Adaline
The world doesn't need another romantic story about an immortal human who doesn't age with horrible acting (sorry, Blake).
Pitch Perfect 2
This movie tried a little too hard to compete with the comedy from the first, and unfortunately, the attempt fell flat.
Aloha:
A sub-par attempt at a serious, artsy film.
Tomorrowland
Quit while you're ahead, George Clooney.
Poltergeist
I prefer the original.
San Andreas
Scientists actually watched the movie and deemed that the majority of the film was horribly unrealistic.
Paper Towns
Unless you were a fan of the book I recommend staying away from this adaptation of John Green's novel that is trying to bank off of the success that "The Fault in Our Stars" had last summer.
Mission: Impossible (one billion)
Pixels
My dad saw the trailer, looked at me and said, "I feel bad for Adam Sandler." I feel bad for Kevin James whose agent keeps booking him such horrific films.
Terminator Genisys
Hollywood already attempted a reboot of the famous serious with "Terminator Salvation," but this seems to be pushing the limit with an elderly Arnold S. hobbling in his old age to portray a man/machine
I don’t even know what to say...
Magic Mike XXL.
Go see these summer flicks for yourself or just take my word for it.
