Worth your bucks?

10 Summer Movies: July Edition

Every summer, movie companies force-feed you trailer after trailer with hopes to get you to the theatre. Movies like Suicide Squad will have no problem attracting an audience while others might struggle. Why? Because nobody wants to pay ten dollars to see a bad movie. Luckily for me, I work at the movies so I get to see them for free. Not every moviegoer has this luxury so I decided to make a list of the July releases I’ve seen to let you know which movies are worth your bucks or not.

1. "Nerve"

I really liked this movie. In case you don’t know, it’s about a game called Nerve & it’s basically Truth or Dare without the truth. It was pretty intense which made it fun to watch. Side note, if you have Netflix there are two surprise roles that will make you very happy on the inside.

Worth your bucks: Yes

2. "Bad Moms"

Honestly wasn’t expecting too much from this movie but it’s very funny. The trailer does not do it justice.

Worth your bucks: Yes

3. "Jason Bourne"

Confession time, I haven’t seen any of the Bourne films until this. I got off work right as it was starting so I figured why not. Movie employee perks. Anyway, I thought it was pretty good. It made me want to watch the older ones to see what led up to this so I’m sure fans of the franchise want to see how it all ends

Worth your bucks: Yes

4. "Lights Out"

Stay away from this movie. Not because it’s scary but because it’s just a bad movie. The plot was pretty dumb & I literally didn’t jump once so it fails on both aspects of horror & film. It’s kind of like a worse version of Darkness Falls. The Conjuring 2 definitely takes the summer 16 horror movie crown.

Worth your bucks: Negative

5. "Ghostbusters"

This was a pretty funny solid movie so I don’t understand the hate it got. If you went in ready to compare it to the original, of course you’re not going to like it considering it’s a classic. I agree that we didn’t need a remake but it’s definitely not bad. However, In terms of paying, I’d wait until it’s on Redbox

6. "The Secret Life of Pets"

I really enjoyed this movie. I took my nephew to see it but honestly I was sold since I first saw the trailer. Gidget, aka Mona Lisa from Parks & Rec, definitely stole the show.

Worth your money: Yes

7. "Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates"

This movie is hilarious. That is all

8. "The Purge"

I thought this movie was pretty awesome. I like how they brought politics, purge style, into the picture. It is definitely the best of the three.

9. "The Infiltrator"

This movie is about a federal agent who goes undercover to infiltrate the trafficking network of Pablo Escobar. If that didn’t interest you enough, Bryan Cranston, aka Walter White, plays the main character.

10. "Tarzan"

I was pretty critical about this movie because the animated version is my favorite Disney movie but they delivered. The story is interesting & you get to watch Margot Robbie for two hours so it’s a win-win.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
