When September arrives, many parents and students feel overwhelmed. Starting classes again and returning to work brings plenty of stress. However, there is also a reason to smile. Fall is a great time of year with its warm and cool days, along with a chance to do outdoor activities or just hang out with friends and watch scary movies. The opportunities are endless. Here are some fun events to keep busy this fall season.

1. Go pumpkin picking

Message your friends and plan a day to go pick pumpkins. It is a fun event and there are pumpkins of various sizes. There are usually festivals nearby, so finding a pumpkin patch should not be difficult. Afterward, you can make a Jack O Lantern, toast the seeds, or make pumpkin pie.

2. Visit a haunted house

If you are feeling courageous, then check out one of the many haunted houses close to you. Bring friends along for an evening of scares. There are also corn mazes if you are looking for something more intense. Many haunted houses are also looking for an assistant during the fall season if you are interested in making some extra money to scare people.

3. Check out a farmer's market

This activity will require some traveling, but you will enjoy looking at selections of healthy and fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Get some to have as a nice side dish for your meals. It is always good to try different kinds of food. Perhaps you might find something you have never eaten before.

4. Binge-watch horror movies on Netflix

If you are a fan of scary films, then you will love this activity. Whether there is a particular series that you enjoy or just like the genre, take a seat and get some snacks and pick your favorite movies to watch. Make it a group activity and invite friends to share the chills, thrills, and occasional laugh. Try not to get too scared.

5. Run around and crunch leaves

You can return to the days of childhood with this one. Crunching on leaves is fun and jumping into a pile of them is great, as well. It is a nice way to embrace the fall season. Also, a good way to release the stress built up from homework and projects.

6. Try out an escape room

These are challenging activities that require communication, teamwork, and puzzle-solving. With practice, you will definitely enjoy going to them. The key is to relax (seriously, calm down) and figure out a way to get out of the place you are trapped. You will have fun and learn skills along the way.

7. Buy a pumpkin spice latte

Going to Starbucks has become a daily or weekly activity for college students. When the fall season comes around, they will likely purchase a pumpkin spice latte (if they actually like them) and post it to Instagram. If these drinks are not your favorite, there are other options. What's important is that you get the fuel you need to get through your classes.

8. Take pictures on a nature walk

During the fall season, the leaves change bright colors, so this is a great opportunity to take beautiful photos of the scenery. You do not need a fancy camera either. Just go out and enjoy the outdoors. Get some amazing stock photos to sell or post to your Instagram profile.

9. See a sports game

Attend homecoming or any game to support your college. It does not have to be just football. There is also basketball or lacrosse if you are interested. Make sure to display school spirit.

10. Have a picnic

If you need a more relaxing activity, then going out and finding a nice spot for a picnic is a good one. You can go to a park or travel further out; the choice is up to you. Take friends along and enjoy the fall weather. It is the best way to spend the weekend.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
