A few tricks I have been using to get my health back on track this summer.

Staying healthy year round is tough. Between unhealthy foods because of convenience and ease, it can be very difficult to make healthy decisions. On top of that, going to the gym can feel like an unnecessary task when your bed feels so warm and cozy. But, nonetheless, that are ways to keep motivated whether you are just starting your health journey or need to get back on track.

Here are a few tricks I have been using to get my health back on track this summer.

1. Set A Goal For Yourself

Whether it is toning up your body, losing weight, or just getting healthier overall keep in mind what you are ultimately working towards. Setting a time frame for yourself is helpful as well, such as "I want to lose five pounds over the next two weeks." You should also make sure you are setting realistic goals though, wanting to lose 30 pounds in a month is just not at all realistic.

2. Shop Smart

Giphy

While grocery shopping, it can be oh so tempting to buy all of the junk food you see. For starters make sure you never go grocery shopping when you are hungry. Be sure to eat something BEFORE venturing out to the store so that your mind can do the thinking, instead of your stomach. While shopping, look for fruits, vegetables, and organic foods. This may be difficult to do the first couple trips but aim to get better and better at just buying healthy foods. If you don't have any unhealthy snacks in your house, you will be much less likely to cave in and eat them.

3. Get A Buddy

Giphy

See if your friends, relatives, or even roommates are looking to get healthier. Having someone to encourage and motivate you makes all the difference. Alternatively, when you are motivating and encouraging another person, it inadvertently makes you want to stay and check.

4. Make A Schedule

Giphy

Decide which days you want to go to the gym, and which days you want as rest days. Additionally, pick which days you want to work which muscles. Having a consistent schedule helps your body get in the habit of going to the gym without overworking certain muscles.

5. Treat Yourself

Giphy

It is very important to treat yourself from time to time. If you are just beginning, it may be easier to have a cheat day once a week. Then, over time, you can work your way off to every other week, then once a month and so on.

6. Maintain Patience

This journey takes time! You will not reach your goal overtime, so have patience with the process and know you will get there in time. This will all be worth it in the end!

These tips and tricks are not only for summer. Once you gain these healthy habits, you can carry them into your normal year-round lifestyle with the ultimate goal of having you feel healthy all of the time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
