With the end of another school year comes the most valued four months of a young student's life. It is time for summer vacation. Some people will have extravagant trips around the world planned with their best friends, but if you're like me, you're much more likely to make these plans and then go through a summertime reality check.
Sleeping In
Expectation: It's 11 a.m. You have no responsibilities. Everyone else has adjusted their days to make sure you get your much-needed beauty rest.
Reality: Everyone else in your house is an adult, and they have big people jobs that require them to get ready before 9 a.m. If your family routing around your house for uniforms, keys, etc. didn't wake you up, the slamming of the front door certainly did.
Summer Flings
Expectation: They were the focus of half the movies you've watched. You two would meet at a movie theater when you spilled your popcorn on him. You'd exchange numbers and fall deeply in love for the next three months.
Reality: You have very little free time to be spending at the movies because you're at your job trying to save up money to go to the movies. In reality, your summer fling is just that dog you keep making eye contact with on your walk home from work.
Road Trip
Expectation: You gather up all your friends with your favorite music and a map. Then you just go where the road takes you.
Reality: You start to plan a fun weekend away with your friends. Almost all of them get actual plans and bail. Then, you start fighting over where to go and who is going to pay for gas. Eventually, you just give up on trying and go to the same place you always go.
