Being the president of a club can sometimes be stressful, but most of the time it is very enlightening and puts me in a place where I can communicate ideas with people. I love guiding people and collaborating with different groups. It makes me feel accomplished and it always keeps me on my toes. I’m able to work with a system that may not always work, but I am able to maneuver around it to find a better path.
I’ve never actually been in a leadership position before this this role as president of the art club. It helps with my confidence, because it makes me have a responsibility and it’s something I’m passionate about.
One role of being the president is to provide events for people to attend; this week there’s the summer sale. The summer sale was concocted by one of the professors and was given to us students to conduct. First step in creating this event was creating a time span. It would run from August 19th to September 16th. It was neatly snugged in-between the beginning of the school year and our next event.
The next step was to Get the art in the first place. What type of art show doesn’t have art!? So to gather art, the vice president, one of our public relations officials and I went class to class and asked everyone to come to our art club meeting and bring art. We collected a few pieces, some were prints and others were paintings, but all of them were special. The prints were the crispest of the crisp and the paintings were vibrant and lifelike. I enjoyed seeing all the different personalities all collected under one roof.
Now that we had the artwork, we needed to hang it. We were given the permission to put mails in the wall, which was never granted to us before. We had so many options to how to hang them, but I decided to divide them into traditional and digital. There were subtle transitions between sections to ease the viewers viewing experience. I also placed fruit sill life and things of that nature near the window because I felt that the natural environment of the outdoors would complement the pieces.
The final part of this project was to advertise the show. This is my hardest hurdle, because getting the word out about something can be complicated. I decided I was going to blast social media with posts detailing the time and dates that the gallery would be open. The show will be the first of its kind and the kickoff to a new age of art club. I hope that we can inspire the whole campus community to participate in our artistic activities. It will bring life and color to our already vibrant eagle community.
