It is finally the time of year every college student is looking forward to: SUMMER. Gone are the days of late night studying and panic attacks. Gone are the days of binge drinking coffee and questioning every life decision ever made. All we have to focus on is making sure we actually get 3 meals in per day because somehow that never happens in the summer, at least for me anyway. It is time to start those dreaded summer jobs and internships, but it's finally summer so that hardly even matters. To those of you that this applies to, know that I am thoroughly jealous of the time you get to enjoy out in the sun with friends and family. Please, please, PLEASE take advantage of every opportunity this summer. Please, please, PLEASE pack every day this summer with adventure and passion and excitement.
Personally, I have to pack all of this in the two weeks I have before my summer semester of starting graduate school. I have two weeks to balance all the relaxation and adventure I need to last me through 10 weeks of school. So as I talk about the things that I am going to fully appreciate in these two weeks, take a moment and appreciate this summer and everything you could accomplish in it.
1. High school friends finally being home
I am very lucky to have an amazing group of friends that I usually spend all summer with. From biking, wine-induced laughter, hiking, car rides, cliff jumping, laying by the pool and everything else we do, I am going to fully appreciate every second I have with them in the next two weeks.
2. Crazy family time
As I have been a commuter student for the past 3 years, I have grown to be very... impatient... at times with my family. It is hard to balance both a school life and a home life and everything else that gets tossed in. This summer however I will be living on campus. I know I am going to miss having my dad make me pancakes in the morning and the long talks I have with my mom about anything and everything. Take this summer to become even closer with your mom, dad and siblings. Time goes by so fast, but summer gives us time to slow down and be present.
3. Peace & quiet
The summer has always been the time to unwind and relax. There are actually moments where nothing goes through my mind and I have no worries in the world. My favorite thing to do in the summer is wake up in the morning, make a coffee and just sit outside. The quietness is so soothing and reassuring. As much as the summer is full of adventure, take some time to unwind and focus on yourself.
So all I ask of you, lovely person who took the time to read this, is to fully appreciate everything this summer. Really be present with your friends and family and enjoy their company. I am lucky to be spending this summer with an amazing group of intelligent, determined and lively future PTs. My challenge to you is this: Make every single day this summer something beautiful and something to be proud of.
