It's finals week, and you are probably more well done than the only steak I would ever touch (I can't stand meat that's not well done, by the way). We are all thinking about summer and what we are going to do for the next three months of our lives. What are you doing this summer? Well, what can you do?

You could work, you could get either a part or full-time job somewhere in your college town or back home. This is a good choice, especially if the entire cost of college is on you, you can get a jump on paying off some loans or saving for the school year if you don't have time to work with all of the classes you have to take.

You could get an internship, some might be paid, others not. This is a good idea to consider as you near graduation, because you can get some good work experience in your field, it can also be a great networking opportunity.

You could take a class or two, summer is a great time to knock out some of those gen eds that you have been putting off. That way, you have more time during the year to focus on the classes that actually interest you, just try and avoid those 8ams...your summer self will hate it.

You could start a new hobby, for example, last summer, I had a good chunk of time to really get into blogging. You could do that, learn how to knit, or make scrapbooks. The world is your oyster, three months is a long time, and you have the chance to learn a lot in that time.

You could learn a new language, going off of the previous point, you have time, and that time could be spent learning Spanish so that you can understand what Pitbull says in his songs or Japanese so that you can understand some of what your favorite anime characters are saying. The internet is a great place to learn languages.

You could create and complete a project. Want to write a book? Direct a short film? Create a painting? Learn a new piece of music? Summer is great for that! You have much more time, even if you do take summer classes, because you don't have all of your extracurriculars to worry about.

You could freelance, if you know of anyone who needs help around the house either mowing the lawn, walking the dog(s), watering plants, or even someone who needs you to take on a short term house sitting gig, you can make some money while not having to worry about a full- or even part-time "real job."

You could catch up with friends and family, if you will be back home and you have friends at other colleges who will be, too, summer is a great time to catch up! Regular lunches at Chipotle or weekly movie nights can be a great way to get together with people you almost never see anymore.

You could start applying to graduate programs. If you will be a senior next year and you are considering graduate school, now is the perfect time to start looking at programs and getting things figured out. Especially if your chosen program has an early application deadline, you want to get on that, ASAP.

You could come up with your own list of things to do, create a bucket list of things you want to do or see in the town where you will be spending your break. Go to a museum one day, road trip to the next town for lunch another day, the possibilities are endless.

I hope that this list helps anyone who can't figure out what to do over summer. If you are already on break, congrats! If you still have a few assignments and finals, keep on keeping on, because it will all be over soon, and you will be free.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
