" Suicide Squad" directed by David Ayer. Ayer directed other crime movies such as "Street Kings", "Sabotage" and "End of Watch". In this movie, Ayer directs a world after Superman- a continuation of
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". The United States Intelligence officer, Amanda Walker, comes up with the idea to make a new force. Walker is afraid that the next meta-human will not be as helpful or friendly as Superman was. So, she puts together a group of “the worse of the worse”- most of whom were already locked away. Getting the go ahead Walker gathers her new team of misfits. With Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Killer Croc (Adewale Akimmuoye- Agbaje), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) and their supervisor Sergeant Ames Bravo (Joel Kinnaman).
Even with the threat to mankind, Ayers slips in some killer The Joker and Harley Quinn scenes. We start at their beginning. Dr. Harleen Quinzel starts as a psychiatrist in Arkham Asylum located in Gotham. Some people fall in love with their work. Harley Quinn takes the cake. She falls in love while she is “helping” Mister J. Quinzel help the Clown Prince of Crime escape. They become the King and Queen of Gotham in the original appearance of Harley Quinn and the Joker duo. The Joker tortures Harley Quinn multiple times. The Joker's ( played by Jared Leto) abuse of Quinn is quite present in the original batman storyline. In the original, the Joker talks down to her, hits her and even threw her out of the window for “being in charge” and doing his plan for him. In Suicide Squad, they area ride-or-die couple. The Joker would kill anyone and everyone who disrespects his woman. In a scene, we see him go crazy on a man who called Harley hot. Harley later gets captured after an accident separating the two lovers. To say the Joker went crazy with separation anxiety is to say it mildly. The Joker searches high and low to find his girl and Harley Quinn’s knew her Puddin’ would come for her.
In one scene, The Joker and Harley Quinn are talking before they escaped from Arkham Asylum. Their conversation sits on our heart string and plays a ballad. The Joker asks if she would die for him to which she did not hesitate to say yes. People often do say they would die for one another. Like dying for your mother, best friend or siblings. But thne he asks if she would live for him. Would she fight through all the pain and when she wants to let go and die to keep going for him? This means more than dying for him. Then she jumps in a vat of chemicals. You can see him hesitate for a moment before taking his jacket off and jumping after her. Then they make out- please do not try that at home kids. In these scenes in Suicide Squad we see the change in the dynamic of Harley Quinn and the Joker to a more romantic verse and less abusive version.
