Now-a-days everything revolves around money. You can't even get a decent job with a decent paycheck without having money. What I mean is: in order to get a decent job, you need to get a decent internship, which you need to get by attending a decent university which will cost you a pretty decent penny. Do you get it now? To colleges and universities, a student is not seen as a student, but more as an asset. Why? Because they do not care about what grades we get, or how many clubs we are in, all these institutions care about is dollar signs. It's pretty sad, and to be successful now, you need to have at least a million dollars in your bank account, or in stocks, or else you are a failure.
What makes a person truly successful (regardless of how corny this sounds) is how happy they are. Success should not be defined on what college you went to, or even if you went to a college at all. Because to us current students, we are not successful looking at all the loans we are taking out and are in debt to. Success varies from person to person. Do not get me wrong some people are successful (in their own ways) by how much money they bring in. But that is not everyone else's idea of success. Success could be watching your children grow old, or being happy with what you do no matter how much money you are making. There are those who are successful in funds, but not at all happy with what they are doing, so are they considered successful? Not in some other people's terms, no.
But, society tells us that we need to have money to be successful, but that isn't right. We need money to survive, yes, but we do not need it to be successful. You could live in a tree in the middle of nowhere with all the wilderness around you living off the land, and that could be your version of success. Who is the society to tell you what is right, and what is wrong? One should never change their path or their dreams to conform to societies version of success. College students change their majors all the time because it may not be a good major to make them enough money, but if that is what you are passionate about why should you give that up?
We are so worried about what everyone else thinks, and what society thinks rather than what truly makes us happy. We forget about being our own individual and focusing on our own successes because that is not what society would agree with. Well, screw society, and stick to what makes you happy. Follow your heart, and dreams and make your own definition of successful because no one can tell you that is not correct.
