Six Styles To Resurrect This Fall Season

Looking for something new? Look to the past!

Ladies, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to express our fashion and style, but have we considered looking to the past for that something new?

1. Big Hair

Maybe you’ve seen this style in old pictures of your mom when she was in college: wild curls hairsprayed to the max looking more like a halo of brown or blonde instead of hair. While this style can be a bit over the top, I recommend giving it a try with a few alterations. Instead of the spray starch, go for a smoothing finishing spray so your wild locks feel soft and look wild. Get that flat hair big and curly in a messy, “I’m carefree and fun” kind of way. Let people see your Mrs. Frizzle fun side.

2. Bell Bottoms

The right kind of bell bottoms can make anyone feel like a foxy lady. With the high-rise waist and wide-leg bottoms, you can feel curvy and tall strutting on your way to the disco—or class. Or if you’re more relaxed in your wardrobe choices, bell bottoms are the best way to make a statement without surrendering any comfort. The wide legs allow for your legs to breathe and move freely. Whether denim or corduroy, bell bottoms can make you feel like a gypsy goddess, day or night.

3. Minimal Makeup

Now don’t get me wrong, I love to watch full make up tutorials where the artist used 500 different products and brushes as much as the next girl, but in our everyday lives we can get bogged down with having “perfect” makeup. I propose leaving the heavy colored eye shadow and dark eyeliner aside and going for a minimal, fresh, and clean look. Wash your face, apply BB cream, a neutral matte eyeshadow, mascara, lightly fill the brows, and boom—an easy look that sure to let your lovely imperfections glow.

4. Hats

And no, I am NOT talking about fedoras or baseball caps. I’m talking about the delicate, well-crafted hats you can see your grandmother wearing in black and white photographs, or the wide-brim hats of the 60's and 70's. For many years now, if someone is wearing a dressy hat out in public, they stand out, which can be good and bad. Some people really love the idea of wearing hats but are too shy to do so because of all the attention, myself included. We are truly missing out on such a beautiful and varying accessory choice!

5. Big Skirts

A perfect calf-length, high-rise skirt with yards of luxurious, printed fabric is sure to compliment any body type. The gathered waist and the flowing fabric create the illusion of a curvy, hourglass body. The 50's style length is perfect for any occasion as well. Jump, run, and dance without feeling nervous about exposing yourself. The length is modest but can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with flats. These skirts can look fun and classy at the same time—very valuable for college ladies who need versatile clothing.

6. No Bra

I know this one is a little more risqué than the other choices, but hear me out: if you feel powerful wearing a bra or bralette—do it, but if you don’t like how it feels, ditch the bra. In the 60's and 70's when the counter culture women’s movement was in full swing, feminists took to the streets wearing no bra, unashamedly showing their defiance of feminine expectations. In this day and age, women have many more freedoms and choices with what they do with their bodies and clothing, so why not take advantage of that and pay tribute to the great women of the past? Oh, and not to mention you can enjoy the lack of tight bands cutting into your skin.

Consider these six fashion choices this upcoming fall season, and your wardrobe might thank you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
