How to Spice Up Your Style in College

College is the perfect time to try out some new styles. Here are some essentials:

Belts

Giphy

Belts are the perfect way to accentuate any outfit and make it look more put-together. Go for a simple black or beige, or even a funky design if you're feeling it!

Tucked Tees

Giphy

Your t-shirts might not be as cool as this guy's, but go through your drawers, and dig out that old band tee. Tuck it in, and finish it off with a belt -- low-effort, but still fashionable.

Denim Jackets

Giphy

Jean jackets are super easy to throw on. They're stylish, and they usually have some convenient pockets. If you're worried about too much denim in your outfit, ditch the jeans and throw on a pair of leggings or black pants for a super easy and trendy fit.

Button-Ups

Giphy

Ditch gender norms, and consider putting on a button up. You can wear a classic, plain shirt, or even go for a patterned print. Shirts like this look great when they're tucked in and worn with a belt. You'll definitely look super snazzy.

Cuffed Jeans

Giphy

Keep your jeans from looking frumpy by cuffing them. It's a simple way to look more fashionable and a convenient way to show off your shoes. Stylish cuffs are anywhere from 1.5 to 2 inches, but cuff to your heart's content. There are no rules here.

Black Jeans

Giphy

Black jeans look great cuffed, too, and they're an easy way to get out of the routine of wearing blue jeans too often. You can't go wrong with black jeans and a t-shirt that expresses something important to you.

Army Pants

Giphy

Army pants look great when paired with a plain black or white shirt. Throw on some combat boots to finish off the outfit, and you'll be looking like a badass in no time. Unstoppable.

Flannels

Giphy

Flannels have a lot of potential. They can be worn on their own or layered over a t-shirt. Consider wearing them with leggings or tucked into jeans for the perfect fall look.

Blazers

Giphy

Women in blazers are super attractive. Blazers a perfect if you're going for a more formal look, but you can even wear them casually over a plain t-shirt. They're a definite confidence-booster.

Cool Socks

Giphy

Socks can peek out under cuffed jeans, so rock something silly! There are some pretty cool socks out there, and they don't even have to match!

Converse, Vans, and Dr. Martens

Giphy

Let's talk shoes. Your outfit can have a drastically different vibe, depending on what shoes you pair with it. Converse, Vans, and Dr. Martens are classics, and they look great with jeans. High tops are a signature look to pair with cuffed pants.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
