It's Okay To Stay Home And Study

Is it really worth having to retake classes?

As a Nursing student, there is almost no such thing as partying. There’s no time to even think about partying. This doesn’t only apply for only Nursing students, but for anyone in college.

Now believe me when I say I understand not everyone wants to focus on school all the time. I get that because breaks in studying are needed. But you shouldn’t feel the need to party every chance you get. It’s easy to fall into a habit of going out every night with your friends and skipping your classes on a regular basis. You’re in college for a reason, therefore, whatever you put into your studies is what you’re going to get out of it.

The real reason behind all the partying is called FOMO (aka fear of missing out). I used to be so guilty of this. I would tell myself I had time to go and do everything I wanted to do, but I should have stayed back and looked over my Biology notes a few more times. I know many people who struggle with missing out on a simple get together with friends.

Freshman year is usually the year where you figure out where you belong in college. You either stay home most of the time and focus on your books or you’re stuck in the bars. There’s really no in between. I chose to try out the party scene my Freshman year in college and saw my self really struggling when it came time to turn in assignments that I rushed through at the last minute or staying up all hours the night before a big test. It was clear that I didn't have my best interest in mind by trying to go out every night there was an event.

Throughout the rest of your college years, you will usually follow whichever place you picked to be in your Freshman year. If you chose the party scene, that’s where you’ll most likely be. If focusing on your studies is more important to you, then you will most likely be studying almost any chance you get.

It's okay to care about your school work. That doesn't make you lame! If anything, you should be proud of yourself for seeing the bigger picture in life. Who knows? Maybe by choosing not to party all the time you can take an extra class or two and possibly graduate early.

Plus, keeping yourself busy with schoolwork helps the semester to go by fairly quicker. Other people, including some of your closest friends, may not be able to let go of the party stage quite yet, but that shouldn't hold you back from pursuing your studies.

Study hard throughout the entire semester and make sure your goals are in place. Focus on where you need to be in school and get to that place. School may not be fun, but once it's all said and done it will all be worth it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
