We are well into January at this point... and well into the new year! You went home for the holidays, and while we could always use one more week at home with our families it is time to get back into the swing of things. With January being the month that starts out every new year it is the perfect time to reorganize, evaluate, and set goals for yourself! With that being said... here are 7 things every college students should do this January!

1. Clean Out Everything

I know... you just got back to school. You want to catch up with your friends that you haven't seen in a month and the last thing on your mind is cleaning, but I promise it is worth it! You are about to start a new semester of school. Donate or get rid of clothes that you no longer need, recycle papers/notebooks/etc. from the previous semester, and dust your room (remember you have been gone a month). This will also make moving out at the end of the year easier!

2. Plan A Dinner With Friends

Now that you have cleaned out everything you can plan a catch-up dinner or get-together with your friends! You have not seen each other in a month and you want to do something fun, so this is the perfect opportunity. It does not have to be anything crazy, and it is best to do it now before the first round of exams come up!

3. Meet Your Professors

It is pretty common to go to class, listen to the lecture, and leave. Instead of making a beeline for the door the second the lecture ends introduce yourself to your professor, especially if you are facing a class that may be a challenge. Maybe they won't remember your name when you go into office hours the first time, but it's nice for them to get to know you and you them.

4. Update Your Planner

Go through all the syllabi for your classes and write down all important due dates for assignments/exams/papers/projects. Start the year out with being on top of things. This will help you with your time management later in the semester.

5. Find Your Study Spot

If you are looking back at your last semester and thinking you could have better study habits now is the perfect time to put this thought into action! Go to the library, coffee shops, or any other place you feel might be good for studying and find your study spot. It should be quiet and free from distractions!

6. Re-evaluate Your Daily Routine

Any bad habits you need to break? Or adjustments you want to make after last semester. Now is the time to start making changes. Maybe you want to wake up earlier, read a book before bed instead of watching Netflix, or even leave earlier for class so you make it there on time. Whatever it is, start now and in a few months, it will be routine!

7. Meet Someone New

You are starting out with a completely new schedule and that means you may or may not know anyone in your classes. Even if you do meet someone, branch out and say hello to someone new. You get to make a new friend and study buddy!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
