High waisted shorts, converse, denim jackets, and one-pieces are just a few of the items that seem to be circulating through the fashion industry today. Does it seem familiar? Well, it should. Today's pop culture is doing a repeat of the popular trends that were a huge hit back in the 70's. From chocker necklaces to flower crowns today's youth is trying hard to bring back the "hippies" of the older generation.
It's hard not pass someone who now has a Polaroid camera. People are starting to crave a more nostalgic feel to the daily activities they partake in. Record players are being sold in popular trendy stores such as Urban Outfitters, and recording artist sell records with their popular hits on it, such as Adele. More and more people are starting to realize that the society we live in today isn't so raw and genuine as what it used to be.
The 70's represented carefree fun. The music was good and had meaning. To this day people still listen to Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Eagles, Aerosmith, and so many others. We can't say the same about the artist who are in the limelight today. Who we listened to a year ago is someone completely different to who we listen to today. The iconic artists of the 70's have stuck around decades later. Which we can't say about the music we produce today.
Not only is the music and fashion trends making a comeback but the hippie lifestyle is returning as well. More and more millennials are starting to travel around the country via vans. Say goodbye to water and electricity bills. Van traveling is cheaper than renting hotel rooms and the driver only has to supply money for gas. A bunch of people store blankets and mattresses in the back of their retro Volkswagen vans and all pile in to see the world. Don't let the idea of living in a van deceive you, a bunch of these automobiles give room for the owner to customize it any way they want to self-express themselves. Some even have room for a couch.
Not only are fashion trends and music making a comeback, so are novelty items of that era. Fuzzy pom-pom key chains, patches to be sewn on denim jackets and even lava lamps are becoming a staple item to people's decor. Sure people are adding their own twist to these items but they all originated from the same decade which is what a lot of these copycats have to remember.
After almost 30 years of the "hippie" era, society still tries to incorporate it with its newly created fashions fads. It appears that history does repeat itself. So in the wise words of many hippies, "Stay groovy."
