Sure, it's a wonderful thing to have hair as long as Rapunzel that flows in the wind all too effortlessly. However often maintaining this look is a lot harder than it seems and often causes more stress to those who upkeep it than it does joy. Don't get me wrong, I love my long hair and I have sworn to never chop it off. However, to have the genes that allow you to grow out your hair long enough is one thing, but to have the patience to not pull a Britney and chop it all off is another.
1. The dead ends are horrible to deal with.
If you want your hair to have the ability to keep getting longer, the ends have to stay healthy. In order for that to happen, you have to regularly get your hair trimmed just a little bit (emphasis on a little bit) in order be rid of only the dead bits of your hair --disgusting, right?
2. Chances are it'll get caught in everything.
Imagine this. You're in class, minding your own business and trying to take notes on yet another boring lecture. You move your hair out of your face. But alas, then when you try to move forward, you realize that part of your hair has gotten stuck in between the person's desk behind you and your seat. Personally, I cannot express how many times this has happened to me. Desks, backpacks, and pretty much anything within close proximity is a safe bet for something for your hair to get caught up in.
3. You can't always let your hair air dry.
Are you one of those people who likes to take a shower and then go to bed with still slightly wet hair? Yeah, me too sometimes. Except my hair is so long that when I do this, particularly in the warmer months, it'll get all wrapped up around my neck and then I wake up in the middle of the night hotter than I would have been had I fallen asleep outside in the heat. Which brings me to my next point...
4. Don't even think about sleeping with your hair down.
If your hair is really long, unless you're incredibly still in your sleep then it's only going to flip and flop around all over the place while you sleep. One minute you'll wake up and it will be over your face and the next minute you'll wake up to find it practically choking you. Your best bet is to leave it in a bun or ponytail.
5. It's virtually unmanageable if it isn't already perfectly straight.
Let's say your hair is that texture that isn't necessarily super curly but not really thin and straight, either. It's somewhere in the middle. This is the worst. Because this, my lion-maned friends, is exactly what attracts the most trouble for those of us with long hair. If it's not completely straight, it'll be frizzy. If it's frizzy, you'll have to almost kill every strand of your hair by straightening it to get rid of said frizz. At this point, the topknot becomes a better friend to us than the long hair.
