Lipstick has been around for ages, and it's not going anywhere any time soon. It can easily take your look from 0 to 100 with just one swipe. With that being said, there are also a ton of struggles that come with being addicted to lipstick.
1. Kissing? More like marking your territory.
Kissing someone while wearing lipstick is essentially applying lipstick to the other person in a sensual, sloppy and disastrous way. Blech.
2. Getting it on your clothes (and the clothes of others) is all too real.
There are not enough Tide-to-Go pens in the world to fix this. The other day I tried on a black and white dress and then realized I got coral lipstick all over the hem. It's also not uncommon for me to ruin a shirt because lipstick found it's way onto the collar.
3. Your hair gets stuck in it.
Thankfully, lipstick is not as sticky as lip gloss (aka lip glue aka Satan gloss), but your hair is still super prone to getting stuck in your beautiful lip colors. Wind + any product on your lips = no thanks.
4. It gets on your teeth.
You have to be super careful with this one. Red lipstick on your teeth can end up looking like you just became a vampire or something. Head’s up: if one of your girls has lipstick on her teeth, subtly tell her. Also head's up: to avoid this, suck on your finger after you just apply lipstick. Sounds weird, but it works and prevents lipstick from getting on your teeth.
5. Everything you drink out of looks disgusting.
I am notorious for drinking out of the pristine white coffee mugs in the dining hall and leaving lipstick all over the rim. I’m sorry to whoever has to clean that. Basically, I will never get my cup mixed up with someone else because mine is the one with lipstick all over it.
6. When it starts to fade, it looks super sad.
This is the worst with darker colors. It fades in such a weird way 98% of the time. It’s not abnormal for your lipstick to look like a weird ring of color around the edges of your lip by the end of the day. Reapplying or long-lasting lipsticks are heroic.
7. You leave lipsticks everywhere.
I recently found three lipsticks in my old purse and two in my backpack. You throw them in your bag for the sake of reapplying, but then totally forget about them. It happens too often, and it’s a true tragedy when you “lose” your favorite red. But there's nothing better than finding it a week later in the depths of your purse, am I right?
8. Trying to fix smudges takes ages.
Now you have to fix your face makeup and scrub the crap out of your skin just to remove the smudge of pink or red on your chin. Ugh.
9. Finding the perfect shade of a color.
True lipstick addicts know what it's like to find the PERFECT shade of something. There's warm tones, cool tones, blue undertones...there are so many things to think about when it comes to finding the perfect shade, and it's a mission that could take ages.
10. When you accidentally smush the lipstick with the cap.
When you forget to twist down your lipstick, put the cap on and feel your lipstick being smushed and destroyed. It's like you can feel the metaphorical bones cracking in your lipstick. The cap is now covered in lipstick and your favorite color is not smushed and not pretty anymore. But...you'll use it anyway.
Despite all of the struggles that come with being a lipstick addict, it's freaking awesome. Nothing makes a gal feel more sexy or bad ass than applying a fresh coat of lipstick.
