Not being able to JUST pass a class to get by
"You made a B on that test, why are you so upset"? BECAUSE I NEED A's. Nobody understands that we can't just pass a class with a C and move on with life. Sometimes we even cry when we make a B, and no it is not because we are dramatic. Our life LITERALLY depends on it.
Choosing a major is the worst
Well, forget all things math because I suck at it. Oh, I am good at English but I don't really want to study it. Political Science? Okay, I'll choose that while everyone tells me it is a pointless major. I JUST WANT TO GO TO LAW SCHOOL ALREADY!
Also when people ask your major and you respond with, English, Political Science, History, or whatever it may be. They then proceed to say, "Oh so you wanna be a teacher". No, actually thats not even close to what I want to do.
Then explaining the whole spill of how you get to Law School is always a fun time as well. (eye rolling)
The things people say to you...
"So, what is your back up plan"?
I don't know. Stop asking me. I AM GOING to get into to Law School, so stop doubting me. There is no back up plan.
"You wanna go to Law School? Oh you must like to argue"
Well, yes. Actually I do. However, that is no where close to the reason I want to be an attorney. I am actually interested in the legal part of it too. How shocking.
"You're a girl, so you must have watched Legally Blonde, right"?
Hahahaha. Yes I have, and if trying to get into Law School was that easy I would not be trying so hard. The rules of hair care and pink resumes actually don't matter. It's nothing like that, Elle Woods is just my spirit animal.
"You know you are going to hate your life and not have any time if you become a Lawyer"
Are you a Lawyer? Didn't think so. Please do not put me and my profession down after you have no idea how hard I have worked to get there.
"You must want to go to school the rest of your life"
I am very aware of how long I am going to be in school. If i wasn't okay with it I wouldn't be doing it.
"Where do you want to go to Law School"?
Well, I WANT to go to Harvard or maybe Yale. But I have to be realistic so I really don't know.
The LSAT
AKA instant death. I have worked so hard for this 4.0 and you are still going to make me take a test to see if I am good enough to go to your school?
Not just a test. A physical and emotional killer of confidence.
To the many of us trying to go to Law School: DO NOT GIVE UP. It is not the end of the world if you get a B or C on something. It may feel it, but its not. Undergrad is tough, especially because we are studying something we most likely don't actually want to pursue. But keeping pushing, and just remember what you are working towards. We are going to make a difference one day.
