The Struggles Of A Girl With A Sweet Tooth

Something we can all agree on...

As I sit in my room writing this article, I find myself chewing on some sour patch watermelons. As I do this, I realize that I have finally come to terms with my condition. Allow me to introduce myself… Hi, my name is Gabi and I am addicted to sugar. Wow, glad I got that off my chest.

If you’re reading this, I assume that you are one of the many girls who suffer from a sweet tooth as well. Don’t you worry, my friend. You’re definitely not alone on this one. I am the type of girl who is constantly looking forward to satisfying her sugar craving on the daily. After eating a savory meal, my taste buds demand a bite of sweetness. I have a problem. Am I ok with it? I don’t know. Is sugar my ultimate guilty pleasure? Obviously.

Identifying the struggles of having a sweet tooth are quite easy (at least for us, of course). To start, I’m sure that all of us can agree that we experience some major difficulties when attempting to pursue healthy eating. Yes, sometimes our sugar fix is magically fulfilled by fruit (yay, healthy), but let’s be real here ladies, nothing compares to the rush we experience after consuming “the king of all sweets”…chocolate (yes, at last, I said it).

Being taken out on a first date can be considered the epitome of awkwardness for us. There’s no moment of confusion that compares to being asked by the guy, “You want dessert?” Your heart stops beating with shortness of breath… “It’s up to you…does anything look good?” Who are we kidding? Everything looks amazing. Our head tells us no, but our heart screams “Um, are you serious right now?!… Yes!” We don’t want this guy judging us for wanting dessert, especially if we’re interested in seeing him again. Let’s face it, if dessert was ordered for the table, we would most likely eat 80 percent of the chocolaty goodness that is staring us straight in the face (or so, it seems).

Candy stores… enough said. There is no feeling that compares to the moment when a candy store is spotted. Walking in and seeing an enormous variety of candy can be pretty overwhelming…we have hit the mother load. Several thoughts bombard our minds as we strive to make a decision, forcing ourselves to only leave with one thing. We think to ourselves, “What am I in the mood for?” “Do I want a chocolate bar or some sour patch kids?” “Wait, maybe I should try this candy bar that I’ve never tried before?” “LOL, who am I kidding, I’ll take the Reese’s.” Personally, I am a very indecisive person, so being in a place filled with every candy you can possibly imagine… yeah, it isn’t as easy as you would think.

Summertime sadness? Said no one (but Lana Del Ray) ever. Summer means that we have an excuse to eat ice cream, Italian ice, and Ice pops, cue: “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” There’s nothing like going out with some friends and grabbing ice cream on a hot, summer day. Not only do ice cream parlor trips serve as a sugar fix, but you can also take an Instagram-worthy picture showing off your beautifully swirled soft-serve cone with rainbow sprinkles to top it off… Okay, now I want ice cream, anyone else?

So, as I conclude this article, I want to remind all of my fellow “sweet-toothers” of the importance of sugar and how it is, and always will be, a basic necessity in our lives. I would also like to give a shout out to Hershey’s, you are the bomb.com. Alright, I need to stop fantasizing about candy. So, anyone up for some M&Ms?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
