1. The drives early in the morning.
Whether the drives are short or long, having to get up in the early hours of the morning and drive to school is a struggle.
2. The early morning drives that end up being worthless.
Early morning drives are already struggle, but then you add the variable of those teachers who cancel class at the last minute or just don’t end up showing up for the class. Those are the worst! The 7 A.M. wake up and the 30 minute drive here was worthless
3. Clubs and Organizations.
When you are a commuter it is hard to actually be a part of clubs or organizations. Most of the meetings for the clubs or organizations usually happen in the afternoon, and unless you are still at school at that point, who really wants to drive all the way back to school for an hour and half meeting?
4. It is really easy to be late to class.
Whether it is just too early, or you just do not feel like driving that day, being on time to class can be really difficult. Not to mention the traffic. Some days it seems like every one has disappeared and some days it seems like someone opened up the flood gates and there are cars everywhere. And the worst is trying to find a parking spot. The students who had been there since 8am have taken all the spots so you are stuck driving around until you finally find a spot half way across campus.
5. It is really really easy to just not show at all.
Waking up and seeing the pouring rain, and knowing you have to drive 10, 20, or 30 miles for two classes is always a never ending thought.
6. Friends or the loneliness.
One of the hardest things to do is to make friends. You are only at the school for maybe 4 to 5 hours top and then you leave. Sure you will make friends in your classes but then you most likely won’t talk to them. Most of the time you are so busy or focused that you do not have time to socialize. If you eat at school between classes, you know this is one of the most nerve wrecking things. You don’t know if you should sit with random people or just sit by yourself and seem like a loner.
7. GAS.
Gas is not cheap. Some days gas prices are super low in the morning, but by the time you leave they could have jumped up another 10 cents. Driving 20 miles or more a day there and back adds up big time! Any refund you might get from the school goes straight back into being able to get to school in the first place.
8. Living with your parents.
As much as you love your parents, sometimes you just have had enough. Let’s be real, the thought of living on campus went through your mind so many times before the year started. You wanted to have that “college experience,” but then again how could stay away from mom and dad’s close support and the home cooked meals?
