Being a college freshman is a challenge, and sometimes it's hard to keep yourself together

I think getting your shit together is one of the hardest things to do, especially in college.

One moment you are feeling pretty good about life, you’ve started on the papers you had due next week, you studied in advanced for the test you took, and you were even able to slip in a few episodes of your favorite TV show.

And then other times you don’t remember the last time you ate, you have 30 assignments due in a week and you’ve worn the same outfit to classes for two days in a row because you don’t see the same people on those days.

You feel overwhelmed and you are cursing out whoever told you going to college was the thing to do.

You thought you studied enough for the exam you took, but you get the grade back and you feel like a failure because it’s not what you expected

It’s a struggle to pull yourself out of bed for those 8 am classes, even though you woke up at 6:30 every day in high school. Word of advice to future freshman, don’t ever take an 8 a.m. class, you will never be able to get up.

Everything is moving at a fast pace and nothing is the same as it used to be and time really doesn’t stop for you to adjust.

You are unsure of what you really want to do in life because you aren’t sure who said that 18-year-olds know enough about themselves to choose a profession for the rest of their life.

You feel homesick at some point and you just want to call your mom and tell her to come get you.

Sometimes you just want to call it quits and be done.

I’ve felt all of those emotions and more in the short amount of time I’ve been at college, some weeks I feel like I have it all figured out and everything is going my way and other times I’m confused and lost. It’s extremely different than what it was like in High School and the adjustment sometimes is difficult. I often find myself questioning myself and trying to figure it all out. I’ve learned that it’s impossible to try and have everything figured out and it only does you a disadvantage to put yourself under that much stress. Sometimes you just need to not have your shit together. Sometimes you just have to not try and stress about every little thing. I truly think the key to getting it together is sometimes taking a step back and let life take you where ever it might take you.

You don’t have to have it all together right now or even in a year from now. Make sure to remember that other people are in the same boat as you. You will eventually get your shit together!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
