If You're A Millennial, You Know This Struggle All Too Well

Millennials have been silenced for too long, now it's time for our voices to be heard.

Lately I have been a little frustrated with society with the recent election and a lot of ground breaking equality notions, however, I think what has frustrated the most personally is that people do not want to hear what millennials have to say. Every time I try to have a conversation with someone of an older crowd I get laughed at or shrugged off, or even worse ridiculed because I am young so I "have no idea what I'm talking about." Oh my personal favorite is "this subject matter is too above your head." Excuse me?! When did my generation become so frowned upon? We are the only generation that has broken all barriers in equality and acceptance. Just because I am 21 does not mean I have a voice that needs to be silenced. Millennials are the future and quite honestly the only generation willing to open their minds enough to see everything that is actually wrong with this country.

Just because I am a 21-year-old woman does not mean I don't have opinions and valid points to add to an argument. It is extremely frustrated to never be taken seriously unless I am given a fighting chance. My voice has been shut down and disrespected by the older generation, and sadly particularly men. I have has enough though my voice demands to be heard and as does every other person from my generation. It is not only me, my entire generation is pushed aside by most as being incompetent or too technology obsessed to be able to form our own opinions on anything other than social media. Technology is our future and we can utilize it in ways that previous generations can, not including voicing our opinions through this technology. My generation is smart, and we have the knowledge to let our voices be heard on deemed "adult" topics. We will not be silenced.

So please, millennials, let your voices be heard and do it in a way where we can gain respect from those who ridicule our generation. We have already help change so much of society already that we can make a larger impact on the world.

Let's be the generation that fights back.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
