In movies you always see the stereotypical family that has all the family members over at one house for Thanksgiving. It was something I always thought was different than what I had, more than one Thanksgiving. Growing up with divorced parents, I'd have one with my mom's family and one with my dad's; and now being engaged I have three to go to. Now, I am very thankful that I have my family and my new family to welcome in, but I wish sometimes we could be like the movies.
Why yes, I am extremely full after having a lunch at 1, "dinner" at 3, and "dinner" at 5. Like wow what? Can I really fit more food in my tummy? I mean I'll just take a glass a water for breakfast I guess.
Because we have some many Thanksgivings, there is a lot of cooking and a lot of different dishes that need to be cooked. All at about the same time. I'll be in the other room taking a nap with grandpa in between each dinner actually.
Let's be honest, no one likes to talk about their feelings during family holidays (or maybe you do because you live in that movie), but imagine having to explain yourself three times about the same things. How's school? What have you been up to? All the basic questions to make you want to jump out of your skin.
The travel time makes you just want to sleep even more. It's cold outside but all warm and cozy in your car.
And unlike that family from the movie, you aren't going to get as much quality time with each family member than you would if you were all in one space.
Although the day is for thanks and family time, it is very stressful when you have so many places to be and so many things to make. You pretty much gotta plan a month in advance.
Thanksgiving is by far one of my favorite Holidays and I am very thankful for what I have been given; healthy family and food in my stomach. But someday, I want to be as close to that family in the movie as I can possibly be.
