Being raised by two strong, intelligent women has made me the strong person I am today.

The word "strength" usually has a masculine connotation to it, but it doesn't have to be that way. With my father living in a different state, I was raised by my mother and grandmother. But this is not a sob story, it has made me the best person I can possibly be. I cannot thank them enough for how they have influenced and impacted my life, they have taught me the most valuable lessons I couldn't have learned in school.

They taught me confidence.

Growing up in today's society, it's hard to not constantly compare yourself to some of the unrealistic beauty expectations we see on the media. As a young girl, I remember always wanting to look like my favorite TV stars and sometimes feeling insecure. But, they always made sure to remind me they thought I was beautiful, and they taught me to love myself for who I am. If it wasn't for their constant reassurance and uplifting words I don't think I would be the confident woman I am today.

They taught me the power of a woman.

Because of them, I never viewed anything like a "man's job". They raised me to always know I can pursue any career path I desired, whether it was being a doctor or an engineer, my gender did not have to define what I would do. My mother went to college for computer engineering and always let me know how being one of the only women in her classes never deterred her from pursuing what she loved, and that is something that has always stuck with me.

They taught me compassion.

I would not be the person I am today if it was not for how they taught me to treat others. My mother and grandmother always made sure I knew the importance of having manners, generosity, and compassion for others. They taught me to treat others with kindness and be a friend to those that need one. I am immensely grateful to have been taught these lessons and it is something I hope to pass down when I have kids of my own someday.

They taught me the type of love I deserve.

I truly believe that being raised in such an uplifting environment was positive to me in a multitude of ways, one of the most important being knowing my worth in a relationship. They always give me the best advice when it comes to relationships. They made sure I always felt worthy and deserving of a man who will love me unconditionally, and that I should never settle for less.

I truly could write a novel on how loved they make me feel and how they have shaped me into a woman who I am proud to be. That being said, there is only one thing left to say.

Thank you, both. I love you.

6 Things Owning A Cat Has Taught Me

This one's for you, Spock.

6 Things Owning A Cat Has Taught Me
Liz Abere

Owning a pet can get difficult and expensive. Sometimes, their vet bills cost hundreds of dollars just for one visit. On top of that, pets also need food, a wee wee pad for a dog, a litter box with litter for a cat, toys, and treats. Besides having to spend hundreds of dollars on them, they provide a great companion and are almost always there when you need to talk to someone. For the past six years, I have been the proud owner of my purebred Bengal cat named Spock. Although he's only seven years and four months old, he's taught me so much. Here's a few of the things that he has taught me.

Kinder Self - Eyes

You're Your Own Best Friend

Kinder Self - Eyes

It's fun to see all of the selfies on social media, they are everywhere. I see pictures with pouty lips, duck lips and pucker lips. I see smokey eyes, huge fake lashes and nicely done nose jobs, boob jobs and butt lifts. Women working out in spandex, tiny tops and flip flops. I see tight abs and firm butts, manicured nails and toes, up dos and flowing hair. "Wow", I think to myself," I could apply tons of make-up, spend an hour on my hair, pose all day and not look like that. Maybe I need a longer stick!"

Ancient Roman Kings: 7 Leaders of Early Rome

The names and dates of the reigns of the first four kings, as well as the alternation of Sabin and Latin names, are more legendary than historical. The last three kings, of Etruscan origin, have an existence which seems less uncertain.

It is evident that all this is only a legend although archeology shows us little by little that these kings if they did not exist as the ancient history, describes them, have at least in the very Outlines were real as chief of a shepherd’s tribe.
