Stroll & Savor: A Long Beach Local Summer Favorite

Twice a month, from May to September, Belmont Shore hosts an outdoor mini food fair, and I got to experience that for the first time.

Stroll & Savor: A Long Beach Local Summer Favorite

This past week, I was lucky enough to catch the last Stroll & Savor of the summer with my roommates. What is Stroll & Savor, may you ask? It's a neat little event that happens twice a month in the summer months, May through September on 2nd street in Belmont Shore. It's like a mini farmer's market, where many of the restaurants up and down the street put out small portions of their menu items for you to taste for a very nominal price. For $10, you get 12 tickets, and at one to three tickets per meal, that's quite the steal! Per their website, Stroll & Savor is Belmont Shore's "most popular event", and that's really no surprise considering all that they offer. With delicious food, live music, and plenty of people out walking their dogs, what more could you ask for?!

As we strolled and savored along the street, I got a little taste of what living in Long Beach was really like. After moving here about a month ago, I've done little besides work, go to school, and hang out at home watching the GOP debates with my roommates, so it was nice to get out and really explore the city for once! We tasted so much deliciousness, and it's hard to pinpoint a favorite foodie moment.

While my roommates raved about Urban Table's meatloaf cupcake (complete with mashed potato frosting!), my favorite foods were the two dessert items we were lucky enough to snag. One of my roommates and I split a tiny crepe from La Creperie Café, which was one of the best crepes I've eve had! Another one of my favorites would be the miniature cone with a miniature scoop of espresso gelato from Powell's Sweet Shoppe — so rich that I'm sure any more than the few bites I had would be way too much. A tiny scoop in a tiny cone was the perfect amount.

While we only stopped by a few of the many food offerings that Stroll & Savor had to offer, there were so many others that had lines around the block I wish I could have tried. The Lebanese café Open Sesame had some delicious-looking falafel I wanted to taste, but the line was all the way to the next street corner! I'll have to try them out another time that I'm down on 2nd St., because there's no way I'm going to wait until next summer to try that!

It's a shame that I was only able to go to the last Stroll & Savor of the summer, because it was a great food and fun-filled night to remember. Next summer, I'll make sure to go at least twice, and try everything I missed this time around. But this time, I'll make sure to start with the miniature ice cream cone!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
